Doesn’t this go without saying?
[moderating]
Moving this thread off to MPSIMS…
[/moderating]
(just kidding :D)
Seriously, though, I’ve always taken that as shorthand for, “Moderators, I’m not really sure about where to place this thread. Would you please take a look at it and move it for me if it belongs elsewhere?”
Perfectly reasonable, IMHO.
That’s certainly how I mean it. And a smidgen of, “I promise not to be one of those whiny people if you do move it, I get that I’m clueless here.”
Not that I expect you *not *to move something because I might whine, but it just seems polite, y’know? Like handing a credit card to the cashier with a, “this *should *go through…” and a small laugh and a smile. Yeah, it should, but it if doesn’t, I’ve let her know I won’t pitch a fit if it doesn’t. Totally my bad.
To me it’s a little bit of everything.
- I’m not quite sure I put this right.
- I’m not going to whine about it if you move it.
- I’m cognizant enough of internet forums that I know threads are moved and how to find them if they are.
- A mixed thanks and apology in advance for the effort it takes.
At any rate, that’s how I use the phrase, on other boards.
I think the reverse should also be stated where necessary.
As in “Mods, do not even think of moving this thread, if you do I will hunt you down like a dog.” Then the staff know where they stand.
Ghod-am I embarrassed.
I always thought it meant that I didn’t have to sit still while reading the thread.
Wombat, please change the title of this thread to “Mods: Move until you get fit.”
Feel better Czar?
No good. Now I’m picturing all the mods doing the Funky Chicken.
As usual.
Yeah, well that’s why you’re an ex-mod!

Yes, it’s confirmed 'e’s an ex-mod!!
Wait. Does that mean if he re-ups, he’d be a zombie mod?
'Cause then I’d have to close him.
No, actually I believe it would be his responsibility to close himself.
Now that’s what I call “suicide by mod.”
