Moments from Pawn Stars that you hate

I just saw the episode where a motorcycle dealer came into the shop to pawn one of his bikes and insisting that he needs the money for payroll. Why the hell did he agree to be put on the show? He’s basically admitting to the whole world that he really sucks at his job. What are other really bad moments in Pawn Stars?

Any scripted moment involving Davey Deals (the payroll guy you mentioned), Chumlee (when he’s portrayed as a full lobotomy survivor) or the Old Man.

Any time an item is too obviously a plant, and the writers haven’t worked hard enough to make the story plausible. One example is the Russian-Polish military medal some guy said he bought at a yard sale for 75 cents. The expert (Craig?) claimed to know a collector who had the rest of the set - presentation box, ribbon, etc. - but not the medal, and offered to buy it. C’mon, dudes, we all know you needed to fill some air time, and looked in Craig’s collection for some bullshit scene you could film.

Favorite moments: When a rare book comes in, because then we’re going to see Rebecca.

When we have to listen to Rick laugh

Hey guys, let’s go get lunch at Subway.

Anything involving Chumlee. Anything that is “in-shop” scripted. Even the obvious planted items can be interesting learning about.

Totally agree on the rare books, btw. Rebecca could carry her own show easy.

Rebecca could carry my books anytime! And the show would be better off without Chumlee IMHO. Waste of time, space and energy.

Maybe Rick could buy a trebuchet, and they take it out to test, and Chumlee steps in the pocket at exactly the wrong (right) time and TWANG!

I am getting increasingly annoyed at Rick’s laugh too.

And yes the scripted segments. They didn’t seem to be as annoying when it wasn’t some sort of Dennis the Menace situation between Chumlee and Rick. Now it’s so predictable and mean and un-funny. Not like they were funny before but they weren’t mean.

I have stopped watching it entirely. Largely it is because of the Chumlee character. He isn’t a comic relief character and it isn’t plausible that he can get away with goofing off where the rest of the staff would be fired.

I also don’t really like the bickering between Old Man and Rick and between Rick and Hoss.

I do much like the show when they have an authentic historical item and learning about the background.

As a general rule, though,I am not wasting anymore video tape on the show.

Bob

When Rick wouldn’t meet the seller’s price, and the seller said, “This is an outrage to the Pez community.” The show is so fake I stopped watching.

But that’s every time Rick says anything. He really cracks himself up. Bugs me.

this isn’t about a specific moment, but just a complaint in general:
How is it that none of the people coming in the door know about the internet, or ebay, or , ya know, google?
They all seem totally clueless about what they own, but hope to get a good price for.

Sure, it’s fun to guess if that painting is a real Salvador Dali or not, or whether that civil war pistol is real or just a replica. Maybe you can’t know for sure, without an expert examining it …but you can sure do a little research before you come into the store, can’t you?

Many of them seem to which leads to the ever-present “How much ya want for it?”
“Well, I saw online these were selling for $1,500 so… $1,500”
“Hahahaha… no, it doesn’t work that way”
“$1,475?”

Anyway, I haven’t watched the show in ages but saw a snippet this weekend where someone was trying to sell a hovercraft and Rick started dropping his knowledge bombs about hovercraft engineering history on the guy. The whole thing reeked of “I just read the ‘Hovercraft’ entry on Wikipedia thirty seconds before filming this segment”.

I prefer that to Rick pulling his lips back and breathing in with that damn hissing sound.

Lots of people seem to know about the Internet or eBay. But none of them seem to know how to search sold auctions to see what their items ACTUALLY go for instead of seeing the prices other delusional people are setting their items at on eBay.

Buzzfeed makes listicles about “your toys that are worth a fortune now!” all the time and it drives me nuts. None of that stuff actually sells for the prices being asked!

I don’t mind Chumlee so much, except when he appears to be as dumb as a post. He’s not an idiot; he does have an excellent knowledge of pinballs, video games, and the like. But when he’s set up to look stupid, it grates.

I agree also, and Rebecca’s visits are my favorite part of the show.

I visited her store the last time I was in Las Vegas, and while I didn’t see her there, I did take a good look around. It is quite the place–a cross between a museum and a library, really. Showcases hold the most expensive and rare items, along with a description of the item and what makes it rare. I also spoke with a couple of the staff, who struck me as just as knowledgeable as Rebecca. If you like the Rebecca segments on Pawn Stars, her store is well-worth a visit.

The parts where they interview the customer and they say they won’t accept less than some amount and end up settling for far less than that amount.

As far as I’m concerned, they could get rid of Chumlee, Cory and the Old Man. Rick may be annoying but he seems to know his stuff even if he just read it two minutes before.
