Monastery Lodging On Your European Vacation

Every stayed in one?

What did you think?

Thanks

Q

Yes, several times. The most recent was in Rome, four years ago. They were all pretty good: the rooms were clean and comfortable, although sparsely furnished. The bathrooms were fine too, but always shared facilities. A plus for Catholics is that there is often daily mass available too.

One drawback was that there was generally a curfew. I think it was around 10.00pm. I don’t suppose you would have been absolutely locked out for the night if you came back later, but it was made quite clear that you were expected to observe the rule. It never worried me, but I suppose some people could find it onerous.
