I really think the three of them are becoming a good team. I like Dennis Miller, becasue he is smart enough to realize that he isn’t a football expert, but he is a fan. He is earnest and funny. Sometimes he misses the mark, but at least he is willing to take chances.
He had a great line on Monday about Angie Harmon being Jason Sehorn’s great play he will be remembered for (or something like that).
I alos really like Dan Fouts because he knows his football. He seems to me to be much better thanmost analysts on Sunday (I hate Joe Theisman). And although when he tries to be funny it is usually a dud, he did get a good one on Monday. They had shown a carved pumpkin by a bridge and Miller said (I carved that…the bridge." So later they show some elaborate public globe-like sculpture and out of nowhere Fouts says “I carved that”. I was rolling, dunno why, just caught me off guard.
I think Denny is doing a fine job. Frankly, a tennis play could do better than Boomer. I really believe that Dan, Al, and Dennis do a pretty decent job. The one thing that they do well unlike oh lets say John Madden, is that they don’t play the favorites. I hate watching a game with Madden in the box because he picks a team or a few players on a team and praises them like Jesus. I was watching a Green Bay game last year or the year before, and the Pack was sucking. I’m not saying they suck all the time, but they really blew that game. And even though they were losing by 2 Tds, Madden was still talking like Brett Favre’s ass smells like roses. He wasn’t completing anything or running. He wasn’t doing anything, but 'ol John just sat and talked the praises. The MNF guys will get on a highly rated players ass just as quick as a nobody when they screw up. Plus they are quick to point out good plays by people other than Pro Bowlers.
As far as the Melissa Stark thing, yeah, they could find sombody better. But she kicks Lesley Visser’s ass. Visser was more worried whether her hat, lipstick, and gloves matched than what was going on on the field.
I love Dennis Miller. I think he really adds a lot to the broadcast. So what if he’s not analyzing the play?! Most of us are big girls and boys, we should be able to analyze a play on our own. The vast majority of the time I only pay attention to what the broadcasters have to say when for whatever reason I can’t actually look at the TV screen. Besides, there are two other broadcasters up there.
Miller makes me laugh. I love his dry humor. And anybody or anything is a major improvement over Dan Dierdorf. God I hate him a lot.
And besides that, Miller makes some games watchable. Whoelse sat through the craptacular game a few weeks back between the Cowboys and Redskins? Just because it’s Monday Night Football does not mean it’s going to be good football, and you don’t have the luxary of changing the channel to a better game.
…I didn’t like Miller on SNL.I don’t like Miller on MNF.I’m sure he’s funny to some folks but to me he is an arrogant basty.His humor is entirely too high brow for the average MNF viewer(not sayin’ that they’re stupid)
I know humor has a place in sports announcing and I am sure there is a comic out there who can be funny enough for MNF.
…Perhaps a current player has the laugh lines needed but I’m not holding my breath,as once the guys up top have their minds made up nothing can change it.
…John Madden and Pat Summerall got the volume turned down on them waaaaaayyyyyyyy back in the days at CBS.The previously made comments about his onesidedness is accurate.I’d also like to add that Madden won’t shut up about a team he likes even if they aren’t playing…How many times did I listen to him rave about the Dallas Cowboys in the 80’s? I was glad when Fox got the NFC games as maybe Madden would disappear.No such luck.He and Pat show up anyhow.ALSO I though Summerall was supposed to retire last season. Didn’t I hear them say it would be their last game together at the end of last season …Perhaps it was just wishfull thinking.
…I haven’t turned off mNF because of Miller either.It does seem as if he is getting more comfy in the spot. I’m givivng him lots of time to do his job.If not there is always the volume knob.
