Monitor recycling/donation

Help please. I have SEVEN monitors that I want to get out of my office. I don’t have a lot of time to spend on it.

Options:

  1. Ship them back to Dell, who will give us credit. This is the best option. Problems? I simply cannot find any boxes big enough for less than $40. We will only be getting $25 back from Dell per monitor and I m not paying them more than I get. They do not have any boxes.
  2. Donate them. I can do this, but who takes monitors? They are 15" monitors, and they are the old, bulky kinds.
  3. Recycle them. Again, who do I go to? We simply can’t afford to pay a lot - we’re a not for profit.
Any help would be mucho appreciated. Thanks!

Goodwill Industries take monitors around here. Call them up.

Goodwill takes computers. Around here, they even have a store dedicated to selling computers and computer parts.

Look here for recycling options: Computer Disposal, Donation, and Recycling Information

There’s also freecycle and craigslist.

Call up Office Depot and see if they will waive their fee for you. A church I attended that was near the Office Depot would waive the recycling fee for all the monitors that people would donate to the church.

Staples will take your old Dell monitors for free.

For other brands… Around here, there are dedicated e-waste dropoff locations and semi-regular dropoff events at the community college parking lot, which make it free and easy to get rid of old electronics. There’s a good chance that similar programs exist in your area.

Check with local schools or community groups. The high school I coach at just finished an e-waste recycling drive to raise money for the track team.

Thank you! Five of the monitors are Dell, so I can take them to Staples. I’ll find out about that. And that just leaves me with the two, which is much easier. Thank you everyone!

I think we are in a similar area, so probably there are “town recycling days” that you could probably offload a few monitors too, you’d just have to keep an eye on the pennysavers and town notices.
