This used to be my favorite show until American Chopper came on, but this show has taken a turn for the worse. There are several reasons why I stopped watching MG on a regular basis.
The price limit. Why have a price limit when you are going to give them all this free shit? On the rock crawler they got everything for free but had to pay for the steering arms or something. Then on the snowmobile Mini they got all the snow mobile shit for free too.
They ALWAYS show them testing the finished ride at the begining of the show. WTF? All of the suspense is gone once you know they finish the task
The dumb “rule” about the ride having to look “stock” when it is done. WTF? WTF? WTF? Only a few of these things have looked stock. The rock crawler didn’t even look a little bit stock. They need to just stop saying that it is one of the requirements of the project.
They don’t show enough of Jesse James hot wife.
Please fix this show DC. It used to rule. Now it pisses me off.
Would be nice if they had a little more time on some of the trickier projects like the swamp buggy volkswagon becuse it would have been nice if it has actually performed better than a barge. The over-the-top announcers make me want to vomit.
Should have seen the show with an all-woman crew last night. What an absolute fucking joke. A few of them almost got in a fight. And what did they have to make? - a fucking demolition derby car.
As I posted in another thread (maybe we should just do a weekly omnibus Monster House/Monster Garage/American Chopper thread instead of 3 separate threads which all talk about all three shows):
The budget doesn’t matter- heck in Monster House, did away with the fiction of a budget altogether. Although I like the “Freebie” audio clip, so they should keep it for the Garage.
Who cares about the fricken budget- I can watch CSPAN for that. Show me the build team having at it!
A friend recommended this show knowing that I like Junk yard wars. After seeing the dragster hot dog cart I wasn’t impressed. I think they bought l 3 parts? Everything else was donated for free. I was expecting to see some serious junk yard exploration and interesting fabrication. Why didn’t they call up John Force and have him donate a working dragster. If you’re gonna have rules then follow them. I seems like the spending limit was stupid considering the project. Give them a more reasonable spending limit but make them hit the junk yard/second hand parts store a lot more.
The rock-crawler episode ruined MG for me entirely. They got over $30,000 worth of top of the line 4x4 parts- and for what? Jesse’s stated intention was to roll it.
Originally MG seemed (to me, anyway ;)) to be about enjoying the creative + the technical aspects of car building. Lately it just seems to be about sponsors and not much else. It made me physically ill to see all those products and the crew’s work wasted. Why not just set the money on fire- Jesse would be just as amused.
I was so hopeful that the all-girl ep would redeem the show. Nope. That Crystal girl had NO skills and was the most whiney girl I’ve ever seen on t.v. Didn’t anyone think they should spend some time on the engine instead of decorative crap that’s not allowed in the derby? I’m also wondering why NO ONE seemed to know the derby rules. Very sloppy.
You know, I’d be happier if they would make an American Choppers style series out of Jesse’s shop, West Coast Choppers. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching Paul and Paulie go at eachothers throats every week, but from a ‘how to’ fabrication standpoint, Jesse is much, much better.
MG is going downhill. Even from my female POV, last nights show was pathetic. The ‘derby queen’ needs to stick around though. Watching her and Jesse was entertaining.
Didn’t Jesse and his wife get a divorce? They filed for divorce in Motorcycle Mania II IIRC.
I live for American Chopper. I need my fix of the Pauls and the Dumb Blonde Brother every week.
I think that Jesse and Paul Jr. do things a little differently. Jesse pretty much makes suped up choppers, but they all have the same basic shape. Paulie makes all these theme bikes and its cool to see all the stuff that goes into them, ie. motor building, powder coating, chroming, etc…
AC is the best show on TV (IMHO) and I dont understand why they air it so damn late at night.
