Anyone see this 2010 flick? It was just made available for streaming on Netflix and I watched it the other night and really liked it.
A probe investigating possible life on a moon of Jupiter crashes in northern Mexico on its return and infects the area with alien life forms. Most of northern Mexico is quarantined. A few years later a photographer is stranded in Central America and has to escort his boss’s daughter through the infected zone back to the U.S.
There are some great sequences including a creepy river trip reminiscent of Apocalypse Now. The two main actors are not the best - especially the male lead, but apparently all the other minor roles were filled by people on location who just happened to be hanging around at the time filming took place and are very believable.
I was amazed to find out that such a good looking movie cost only $500,000 to make.
All in all not a bad way to spend 90 minutes in front of the tube.
I enjoyed it a lot, too. I was really surprised at how much the movie was really not about the monsters, but about two people getting to know each other in the midst of a tense situation that had monsters in it. And the ending was surprisingly non-Hollywoodish, too.
I thought it was one of the better films I’d seen in the past year. I knew enough about it to not expect a monster action movie. It had a few flaws, but otherwise was great for what it tried to accomplish.
I caught this a few months ago as a sneak preview on HDNET Movies.
I was disappointed. I thought the concept was really interesting and the atmosphere and effects were well done (especially for the budget), but the story of the two main characters was pretty boring. The actors weren’t very good, either.
