I shouldn’t care. So many reasons to be over the vampire cop cliche. Yet, I do care.
Mick is mortal for the time being. How will he spend his time? Hopefully mostly shirtless.
Well, you got your wish, didn’t you? Mick was pleasantly shirtless through most of the opening scenes.
That was an entertaining episode. They’re not playing this show straight at all. That closing shot of Mick against the moon was totally a comic book panel.
Why do these vampires have to sleep in a freezer? I’ve never understood that one.
Well, according to traditional vampire lore, vampires smell real bad, so I guess they (TPTB) decided that they must continue to decompose, so sleeping in a freezer allows them to “keep” longer.

If these vampires smell so badly of decomposing body, wouldn’t people around them kind of notice that?
I don’t get it either. I assume their superior strength and speed causes the to “run hot” but unless they’re drinking gallons of blood everyday I don’t know where they get the energy. Josef had his penthouse office place rigged with infrared cameras to see which of his visitors was hot or cold, with the vamps presumably being the cold ones. When Mick went too long without blood he had to be put on ice, which seems counter intuitive.
Maybe staying cold prevents them from going insane.

Okay, just watched it. Yup, there was some cheese, but it was pretty good for a first post-writers’ strike ep.
Looks like ol’ Mick might have been fibbing about never having had a crispy creme - at least during the strike. Still looked pretty good almost shirtless, but he’s not as buff as pre-strike.
I probably shouldn’t worry about details like this, but who’s Mick’s sire now, Josef or Coraline? I had the impression they respected the vampire characteristic where you inherit vampire power based on the age of your sire. Josef is around 400 and considered pretty strong. So does Mick have the powers of one vamp or possibly two?
Didn’t take them long to replace Josh with another cop to distract Beth.

As far as vampire fiction goes, I consider this show to be cheating because Mick is just sort of annoyed by sunlight rather than devastated by it. Vampires are so powerful that they only become interesting when they have a serious weakness, such as helplessness during the day. Mick isn’t bothered by holy items, either, and even staking him just causes temporary paralysis.
Levdrakon, have you seen the Canadian series Blood Ties? It’s an equally cheesy show with a very, very pretty vampire - the 450-yr-old illegitimate son of Henry VIII, who the writers apparently thought actually looked like Jonathan Rhys Meyers. The show was on Lifetime in the US and is available to watch on their website.
I don’t care about buff / not buff Mick.
I’m lusting for Ms Myles, going back to ‘The girl in the fireplace’ and hating David Tennant for getting to fool around with the best GF material on tv, evah.

I find it mildly amusing the two main actors are Australian & British both pretending to sound American.
If I’m remembering my Anne Rice correctly, they always have erections.
Presumably their hearts still pump, so it would be the old-fashioned way.
Yeah, vamps obviously have blood or they couldn’t turn others into vamps by having them drink it. Plus, Josef said this episode vampires can have sex with humans just fine.
