I finally upgraded to MoP last night. I decided that my rogue would be my first toon to go to Pandaria, instead of my paladin, and got her halfway to level 86. She’s gotten as far a qoing through the first Jinyu questlines in the Jade Forest, up through doing the visions with the Lorespeaker. I’ve really enjoyed the quests so far.
Also got my pandaren warrior out of the starting area and off to Stormwind. Loved the looks on Aysa’s and Jojo’s faces when I knocked Varian down
Does anybody know any good Tanking mods? I’ve been using the default interface and I realized in ToT that my eyes need to be in too many parts of the screen at once. I can do it, but it’s really obnoxious. At minimum I need to keep an eye on my abilities (for CD/resource management), the main screen, my debuffs (so I know when I’m going to need to get ready to pop purifying brew), and my health.
Ideally I’d also like one that could somehow mark enemies that I’ve lost aggro on because sometimes on giant AOE pulls I’ll see someone have aggro and be throwing Drunken Haze around aimlessly trying to find what it is I need to get aggro back from.
Threat Plates is just what you need for threat, it colours and resizes a mob’s health bar depending on threat. So if you are a tank and you have threat it will be green, if you are losing threat it will be orange and if you have lost threat it will be big and red. All the threat boundaries are configurable and it can be used by DPS or Healers with the opposite settings, ie health bar big and red when you have threat.
Things I enjoyed over the weekend:

[li]Demonic Gateway looks so cool even if it isn’t that useful. Yet.[/li][li]Havoc + Blood Fear, Havoc + Chaos Bolt = two dead Alliance players who jumped me while questing, nice.[/li][li]Puntable Marmots.[/li][/ul]
Made myself a sapphire panther JC mount! He’s so beautiful. You can make all 4 colored panther mounts and turn them into an Onyx panther, but I don’t know why anyone would. The concept of a Voltron panther is pretty badass, but the black one doesn’t have anything over the blue, yellow, red, or green ones.
Having seen a number of those in-game already (though I didn’t know where they came from), I have to guess that this JC recipe is easier to obtain than that !@#$% Vial of the Sands for the Alchemy mount?
(Yes, I still have the gold sitting in my guild bank to buy the mats for that drake mount. Except I can’t even get Archaeology to turn up a Canopic Jar, let alone a jar with a recipe in it.)
The recipe is available from the Order of the Cloud Serpent (iirc) at Honored for Sunstone and Jade, Revered for Sapphire and Ruby, and Exalted for Onyx for purchase (at least, the non-onyx ones). So yeah, much easier to obtain than the very RNG-ey Vial of the Sands recipe.
If you just need someone to craft it for you, at least Horde side, Rahuul, one of my druid alts, has the recipe. Of course, if part of the fun is getting the recipe yourself, can’t help you there.
Yeah, I’m revered with Cloud Serpent after a week and a half of their dailies. It’s not bad. Their quests award more rep than the Netherwing ones. You can also look for Onyx Eggs for repeatable rep turn-ins, but they’re rarer than steak tartare.
My human paladin on Lightbringer is my alchemist, so she’s the one who’s been chasing the recipe (which is why she’s also my only toon with maxed Archaeology. Well, maxed as of Cataclysm.) I don’t know if that mount qualifies for the account-wide status; if it does I may take you up on it. But then again, I don’t have the gold on Cairne for the mats. I “saved up” for the mats on Lightbringer by having my three 85’s there each contribute 20k (I know, more than necessary) to my guild bank, and most of it is still sitting there (I dipped in here and there to take advantage of some relative “deals” on purple gear on the AH. And by “deal” I mean somebody posted some BoE DPS plate for 15k instead of 30k. Cata was miserable for non-raiding DPS plate wearers.)
Probably too late for you, but I recommend poking The Undermine Journal for that kind of data. Definitely more accurate than asking Trade. It’s AH data broken up by server/faction.
Abilities: Get a bar mod like Bartender, Pitbull, or Dominos - they should all let you move your abilities around the screen to your preferred location. (I have 2-3 bars worth of abilities floating just under my character’s feet)
Debuffs: Depending on your favored visual style, a bar style tracker like NeedToKnow, Raven, or Satrina. Or just a visual marker, go for WeakAuras or Power Auras – they’ll toss up a graphic onscreen when something goes off or is ready to use, etc, but they’re not so good for tracking, say, how much focus/rage you have. NB: Power Auras is the kitchen sink of mods, steep learning curve but so very configurable once you get the hang of it. Still WIP for Mists but will inc soon.
Health: Unit frames, something like Shadowed Unit Frames which will let you put the frames for player/party/raid/target/etc anywhere onscreen you want. Or a HUD, something like IceHUD.
Other tanky mods: Alice’s TauntWatch lets you know who the hell taunted if it’s not you. There’s also TauntMaster, which gives you buttons to automatically taunt back if something is eating your healer/dps, but I haven’t personally tried that plus its page says WIP for monks.
Wow, I really want to know how they did that, my guess is some snafu allowed the server to accept and process player kill events from the client – and since the API can get the names and ids of all players in the current city BOOM.
It was probably more subtle than that, but if they hotfixed it so fast it might have been as simple as disregarding certain events passed in by the client.
The old ones are; my non-tailors (or the one who’s low level) can’t use the carpets, but the carpets, bikes and copters are in everybody’s lists. There are a few mounts which don’t show up for everybody, but I think it’s only those with class or faction limits.
I still have it sitting in the bank. I’ve seen a few auctions for the item for 1000-2000 gold since then, but I don’t know if they sold or just vanished. Leads me to believe if I wanted the cash I could get a quick 500-1000. Nice. But I don’t need money right now even though I just hit level 60 and had to buy my riding upgrades.
Man, I can’t believe I used to have to walk around on the ground like a chump. First thing I did was fly around Stormwind and perch on all the towers. Walking is for suckers.
Whispers I’ve heard involve GM-specific commands from a hacked GM account. Maybe with a bit of scripting to put the “mass” into “weapons of mass gankage”.
The pics I’ve seen posted show bonepiles in the streets of Orgrimmar deeper than the recent unpleasantness around the Dark Portal after 5.0 zone consolidation, and that was pretty bad. (Specifically, when porting from Orgrimmar to the Blasted Lands, I took off on my flying mount as soon as I got control of my toon and fly up out of at least a 10-foot depth of skeletons.)
LFR is active! After killing Stone Guards on normal (and mumble wipes) I queued for LFR and got in pretty quickly. All 3 bosses went down smoothly, one wipe, but there was a bit of coordination that needed to be told, then shouted, then /rw to get people to hear it. All in all, 3 bags of gold (no items) but 2 legendary quest items(Sigil of Power!) Maybe I should work on my Black Prince Rep.
Black Prince rep takes care of itself if you do Klaxxi and Golden Lotus dailies for a week or two. You can get up to honored I think, just by killing mogu and bug dudes. Dailies will also net you 3 greater charms a week, which you can exchange for a shot at more loot from raid bosses. I’m not sure if it’s worth spending them in LFR, or if they should be saved for normal raids with your guild.
Sounds like fun! I’ll have to get in on that action, as soon as my ilevel meets the LFR requirement. I’m a few heroic pieces away, yet. Can’t wait to test my chops as a restomonk, but I’m a bit burned out from spam-doing dailies for what feels like forever. Last night I didn’t even log in except to run around in circles for a few minutes. I think I’ll just plant my harmonies every day and do heroics for a while.
