MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

Ding 90! About all i can say about it as that last 50% or so from 89 felt like a real drag for some reason. Tonight I start the game again, dailies here I come.

Gratz martu.

I’m having a horrible conflict. Dailies? Leveling the monk? Leveling the other alts? Deshishons, deshishons!

I’m having the same problem. I got sucked back into WoW, taking a temporary break from The Secret World. I leveled my main (blood elf DK) to 90 and spent a couple of days running heroics and doing dailies, but since I’m not planning to raid with him beyond LFR, I haven’t been finding it terribly compelling to log in and do these things. On the other hand, I started an Alliance panda monk and I’ve been having a blast with her! She’s leveling super fast (11 levels yesterday–and that’s only a few hours worth since I had to work) and I love the monk abilities. DPS monks seem to be about as OP as DKs are.

So I feel guilty because I’m cheating on my DK with my monk, but I think I’m gonna keep it up anyway, at least for awhile. I’m feeling really guilty because I haven’t logged into TSW in a week. :frowning:

My favorite thing about MoP, though, is that my blood DK can now easily solo Kael’thas in Tempest Keep, meaning that if that sweet birdie drops, it’s all mine!

I made some damn fine upgrades last night. I’m still waiting on that staff from heroic Scholo but I got into a Sha of Anger group and got the tier legs pieceLeggings of the Burning Scroll And if you’re on the black prince quest, killing the Sha of Anger rewards some 476 boots! Plus earlier in the day our guild tailor hooked me up with the 476 chest piece too, so I’m rolling!
Still gotta run my rep dailies, I have only been doing the Tillers up to now.

Progessed my tauren paladin, Donoma Donoma, further into the Jade Forest. My goodness, the Horde stuff is hilarious! Though it did make me think … is Yeti still playing? After seeing these Horde Jade Forest quests I think I’ll need to ask him to stop calling me “Riko” in guild chat :stuck_out_tongue:

My human rogue on Wyrmrest Accord is my first level 86, for what it’s worth…

Wow this is fast, patch 5.1 on the PTR notes here

Green fire for warlocks really? I honestly though Blizzard would keep trolling us about it.

I realised last night that, for PvE at least, wow has you covered no matter how you play:

[ul]
[li]Like to play on your own? Fine lots of quests, dailies, pet battles, farm etc[/li][li]Like causal group play but in a small guild? Scenarios are for you[/li][li]Like casual group play but in a larger guild? Dungeons, you need a tank and heals so your guildies help you out[/li][li]Like challenging play but in a small guild? Challenge mode dungeons are for you[/li][li]Like challenging play but in a large guild? Raids[/li][/ul]

Add to this LFR for those of us who want to see the story but are in more social guilds we have everything covered don’t we?

Oh god oh god oh god - 5.1 datamined voice clips SPOILERS

SHIT JUST GOT REAL

NOOOO ANDUIN WAN KENOBI YOU WERE OUR ONLY HOPE

He can’t die! He can’t! He was supposed to succeed Varian and bro up with Baine and bring Azeroth into a new time of peace and prosperity!

And Lor’themar! Oh Lor’themar. If the Blood Elves return to the Alliance I will have no reason to associate with the Horde at all!

And Darnassus! Oh god Tyrande. The best I can hope for is Blizzard ignoring her and playing up Malfurion. I have a gut feeling she’ll just be helpless damsel otherwise. And talking about fantasies, I would pay a fortune for this to be Metzen’s ‘we’re not done with Illidan yet’. Imagine Illidan opening a can of whoop ass on Garrosh for daring to touch a hair on Tyrande’s head!

In related news…Akama scenario! Yay Black Temple again!

Little bit off-topic, I suppose, but I gotta ask:

Is it a significant comment about Cataclysm that I continue to see more people running around displaying WotLK raid titles and raid mounts than I see people displaying Cata titles and mounts?

Or am I just seeing a glut of people who waited until level 85 to go back and raid Ulduar and ICC?

The second, I think. Cross realm raiding helped out a lot of people who didn’t have the manpower or opportunity to get the Wrath titles and mounts. By 85, the achieves in Wrath are easy, the Cata ones still trip people up.
There’s an achievement called “The Two Princes” for the Wrathion storyline chapter III. Wrathion is probably one, and Anduin could be the second prince. Anduin might survive, or he may get resurrected later on. It would be a waste if they killed him off now after all that character development.

There is basically no chance of the blood elves returning to the alliance, so you don’t have to worry about that. Lor’themar is as much anti-alliance as anti-Garrosh in that speech, and it would never work game mechanics wise. I’m guess he’ll eventually join a Horde resistance with Vol’jin, Baine and Sylvanas against Garrosh.
I think I was born to be a raid leader just because I seem to be the only person who looks up instructions. Why yes, I will guide the raid through a battle I’ve never completed before just by Googling raid strategies!

Is it just me, or is Tian Monastery (in Jade Forest) gratuitously difficult to find your way into?

I just dinged Exalted with Tillers tonight (yay, 16 spots), Exalted with Order of the Cloud Serpent (yay, Cloud Serpent mount), and Revered with Klaxxi (yay…last two paragons?). Hoorah.

Well, unless you want the storyline that comes with legendary items (probably).

Hmmm.

So I decided, on a whim, to re-up and get to MoP last night. Last time I played was during Burning Crusade, where I did some very minor raiding, but got to the end-game (and was proud of it!). I tried a little bit during WotLK but it didn’t really take.

Anyway, logged in my main and immediately was overwhelmed. I felt pretty lame, being a lifelong gamer, to be beaten back by WoW  Didn’t recognize Orgrimmar, most of my skills were missing and not on my bar, and when I noticed all my gear was broken, I didn’t even have enough gold to repair it! :open_mouth: Remembered seeing somewhere you can fly in the old-world now, but when I tried to switch to flight form it said I needed a flight license, which apparently costs 10x the amount of gold I have. So I was discouraged without enough money to do anything, and without knowing where to go or how to get there. Similar thing happened with most of my alts.

So I’m thinking that, even though I’m basically giving up months of effort, it might be more fun to just re-roll. As a side effect, maybe I’ll scoot over to Cairne and have a built-in guild to join with my fellow Dopers (though I’m more a lurker than anything).

I used to play a druid tank, so I might like to keep tanking but probably want to try something new. Always liked undead, so maybe a warrior? I know Monks are the new hotness but, I’m maybe too iconoclastic to do what literally everyone else is doing

SO: tips for someone coming back after years? Should I muddle through on my druid and try to pick things back up, or just suck it up and re-roll and have fun with Dopers? And if so, what’s a fun class to play around with? I do like tanking cause I was pretty good at it, and makes me desirable and useful for raiding, but maybe healing (similar desirability but completely different play)? Or maybe just go smash faces for a change?

Either way, HI dopers! I’m back (maybe!)

You might want to re-roll. There’s an awful lot in the game now that is COMPLETELY different from the state of the game in BC, including a lot of class functionality. They completely revamped talents, for one thing, so they’re almost unrecognizable. People who’ve been playing right through the changes are used to them by now, but if you’re coming in new, I can see how you’d be completely lost.

Yeah, re-rolling might be the best option. Levelling (at least from 1-70) is much faster now, and as others have said aspects of the game are very different than they used to be.

Heck, a friend of mine who’d only been ‘away’ for 3 months or so was struggling when he first logged in to the post-Pandaria world. (Of course, it didn’t help that he’d been playing Diablo III most of that time, and kept trying to use his mouse to move around the world. )

What is “transmog” gear? Is it end game stuff?

I rerolled a Feral Druid on a brand new server (so that means no money, and no crafting alts to supply gear). I went and checked the Auction House to see if I could get some leather armor upgrades for the character level 35-39 range.

There were some there, but peeps want 1000gold for their green gear. What the hell?

It’s gear you acquire for its aesthetic value instead of its stats, so that you can transmogrify your stats gear into looking like the transmog gear.

It’s different from stat gear in that transmog gear might not be the best in stats, or even something found in current content; you might find yourself going all the way back to level 60 raids and dungeons to find it.

For example, the Hellreaver from Hellfire Ramparts in Burning Crusade is a unique model, so if you’re using a polearm at level 90 you might still want to farm Hellfire Ramparts until you get the Hellreaver so you can make your current polearm look like it.

Ok, cool. Thanks for the info.

LotRO and GW2 both have ways to keep the look/skin of gear you like, while benefitting from the more better stats.

How do you accomplish this in WoW? Is there a “vendor” you gotta talk to?
