Yeah, but…there are lightning alexandrites on my auction house for less than 1 gold. That’s +120 haste, +120 hit. That’s a lot of punching motherfuckers in the face for under a gold. Yeah, I’ll get better gear sooner or later, maybe sooner, but that’s not a lot of wasted money. But your comment made me realize there isn’t much point in worrying about getting the absolute best thing. Get something really cheap and pretty awesome and jam it in there, and don’t worry about it.
Thanks for all your help, I did all of last night’s questing with Ele and managed to even scrape together some appropriate gear with quest rewards.
Seems to be mostly all put-together in the early 40s: make sure Fire Shock is on, which makes Lava Burst crit, which triggers Clearcasting and makes my lightning cheaper and more awesome. Every so often I get enough lightning shield charges to make my Earth Shock awesome.
Making sure to have the healing totem up helps a good bit with not being dead, or using a clearcast for a super heal. And thunderstorm when I remember it
Fun stuff! Glad you recommended it.
Yeah, I forget some of my stuff too sometimes. Especially, I forget I can now move while casting lightning bolt because for the first 5 years I played that just wasn’t allowed. Elementals use to be, essentially, revolving turrets in combat, now at least we have a few more options.
You’re probably aware of this already, but don’t forget that a socket can also hold a gem from the adjacent colors on a standard color wheel. So a yellow socket can hold a yellow gem, but also a green gem (since yellow + blue = green) or an orange gem (since yellow + red = orange). Same is true with blue sockets (can hold blue, green, or purple gems) and red sockets (can hold red, purple, or orange gems).
But as you said, if you’re just looking for something cheap to stick in the socket for a few sessions until some better item of gear drops, your current approach is just fine :-). Just don’t forget the adjacent colors when you start acquiring gear that you expect to keep a while.
I ran a couple of level 90 heroics yesterday, Scholomance and the Stormstout Brewery. Since it was my first time in either one; had no idea what I was doing, but had a great time neverless. And best of all, this two-handed axe dropped in Scholomance, which boosted my DPS by about 40%.
Just to be clear, any colored socket can hold any colored gem, but you don’t get the socket bonus unless it’s a color that contains the socket color (as described above).
Except I found out that the awesome and dirt cheap gems from the auction house have minimum item level requirements. So the +160 strength gem I got for one gold needs a item level 417.
Which explains why there are so many dirt cheap awesome gems for sale. Jewelcrafters make them to level up, but everybody with high level equipment who wants to stick gems in already has the ones they want. And these gems can’t be stuck into lower level equipment. And so you see things like shadow draenite that gives +6 strength selling for more than a gem that gives +160 strength.
Ah yes, sorry, we should have warned you about that. Gems and Enchants both have minimum item level restrictions on them, in order to preserve game balance.
Apparently I am a bad WoW player, and the game is mocking me. Pretty much every time I teleport, join a dungeon/scenario group, or enter a BG, I get:
YOU ARE IN THE WRONG ZONE
at the top of my screen. My apologies to Blizzard for not having fun correctly.
You may be in the Wrong Zone, but she’s in the Oh Zone.
Yeah, it’s a shameless plug for HCTM (I saw them in Vegas earlier this month!)…but the song popped in my head as soon as I read the above post. Just sit back and enjoy the funk/R&B.
I think that’s because you’ve already been to the Dread Wastes. The bleeping buffs from the bleeping bugs only work there, so you get that message any time you’re anywhere else.
Yes, Blizz, I know I’m not surrounded by overgrown wasps. Now STFU.
Question: On my mage, whenever I use Mirror Images, the A-Team music plays. Whenever I hit Time Warp, I hear the Rocky Horror song. Is this coming from the game, or is it coming from an addon (I use Mage Nuggets)?
Yeah? I got yer “Mage Nuggets” right here, pal.
In other news, I’m starting to collect a backlog of green equipment from Outland and it isn’t selling very well on the auction house, and the auctions require a stiff deposit which isn’t refundable if the item doesn’t sell.
Mats sell easy. The low level items sold easy, and only required a few silver for deposit. But level 60ish equipment requires a couple of gold for deposit, and most times doesn’t sell even at cheap prices. I notice that it’s very difficult to find other players selling higher level equipment at bargain prices. I guess that’s because if they aren’t going to try to sell it for 50 gold or more, they just vend it, or send it to their enchanter alt.
So, since I don’t have an enchanter, should I just start vending this stuff? Even if it sells, I’m only getting twice the vendor price for it. Too much hassle. I’m mailing the stuff to another character to keep my bags and bank vault reasonably empty so I’m not completely clogged, but I’ve got a ton of items that would vend for 3-7 gold each and no way to tell which would get snapped up and which will languish. I’m assuming abilities like “fire resistance” are pretty much just flavor and aren’t worth much compared to primary stat bonuses.
Looks like it’s Mage Nuggets. You can customize the sounds played in the options.
I’ve never done anything other than vendor greens – even max level greens. If it’s a World Drop blue or purple it’s usually worth looking into though (in WOTLK I got a max level purple world drop that sold for over 5k gold).
There’s a male pandaren NPC in the Jade Temple Grounds named “Ben Fur” He’s standing at an easel and appears to be painting (and flirting with) a female pandaren named “Helen Ry”.
I posted a comment on Ben Fur’s Wowhead page:
"At first I thought this NPC was a reference to Ben Hur, a 1959 movie starring Charlton Heston. I couldn’t figure out what painting had to do with that movie, though. Further investigation led me to Ben-Hur Baz, a Mexican pinup artist. That makes more sense in the context of the NPC.
“I haven’t been able to track down who Helen Ry might be representing here, though.”
Anybody here have an idea about “Helen Ry”? She’s clearly posing for Ben Fur. I wasn’t able to find any mention of Ben-Hur Baz having a favorite model, and though I searched an extensive list of the names of famous “pinup girls” dating back to the 1920s, I couldn’t find a name that even resembled “Helen Ry” (and surprisingly, I didn’t even find a single “Helen”).
My first instinct is to say it’s a pun on “<something> on rye” but I can’t think of what the something would be. Ham on rye?
Panda-rye-a?
groan
Sorry.
Had a good night in WoW. See my new mage-stick
Also got to so the Arena scenario. Think that may be my favorite of the ones I’ve run so far. I got nifty boots in my goodie bag for this one.
No luck with the Horseman, though. I’ve been chasing that damn flying horse for years now. Only five more chances this year…sigh.
I got a bit of chuckle yesterday when my rogue, Thelois, arrived at Stoneplow and found this guy sitting there:
