Maybe you’re trying with the wrong char. Two years ago, I had been trying and trying and no luck, and then one of my n.alt chars got max level, and on her first try TA-DAAAA!
I thought it made perfect sense, since it was my warlock.
I just vend it. I’ve very little patience for the auction house. I’m even starting to vend greens I collect in Panda Land because my enchanter has so many mats at this point.
I suspect (with no evidence to back this up) that post-Cataclysm, the market for green gear dropped, since one of the major changes Blizzard made with Cataclysm was the implementation of class-specific quest rewards.
Now characters at all levels can get adequate gear just from completing quests, so there’s much less need to ‘fill out’ your character’s equipment on the AH, so much less interest in purchasing gear there.
I gave in and got back in the game too after some friends coaxed me back. Sadly, I’d forgotten my Alliance Paladin had stalled at 80; I hadn’t even touched him during Cataclysm. So now I have to do Hyjal and Deepholm and Uldum again. Thank goodness for reduced XP requirements; I finished Hyjal last night and just dinged 82. Deepholm should get me to 84, and maybe I’ll skip Uldum and get to 85 in the Highlands. Then it’s all Pandaria from there.
Came across some amusing/puzzling stuff last night:
On that island south of Krasarang full of hozen “Fish-Getters”, I found a fighting pit in their village where a couple hozen were fighting in front of an audience of other hozen. Every hozen on that island is wielding a primitive 1h axe, except for this one guy who has what appears to be a Season 9 PvP 2h sword:
Probably not coincidental that there is what looks like a wrecked/abandoned Blackwater/Southseas pirate ship on the other side of the island - salvage!
Just hit level 70. How come I never noticed that fast flying costs 4000 gold? Here I thought I was swimming in money with 2000, and now I find I’m only halfway there. Yeah, way to suck money out of the system.
My main character has been sending materials to alternate characters for weeks now. I’ve got a level 20 jewelcrafter sitting in Dolanar with dozens of stacks of mithril and copper and iron and gems. Bitch, you need to get out on the streets and get me my money. You work that auction house.
You don’t really need fast flying as I am sure you are aware and as you get closer to level cap 4k gold is nothing, you will probably earn that questing from 80 to 85.
I started on my Holy Paladin this week and zoomed into a Stormstout Brewery run that was half way through and I was put in a bucket of rabbits for some reason? Nice little touch.
Failed dismally last night to kill an 86 Warrior and 86 Disc Priest on my 90 warlock, they were two manning solo questers so thought I would go and help and damn couldn’t get them down. Felt a bit weak and feeble…
Well after getting my first The Old Republic character to the cap, I’ve quit (well, idling my account until I can change it to F2P) and I’m back with WoW.
If you join mid-run (or, for some dungeons, when you re-enter after death), you get moved either to a group or to a sort of “save spot” after the last boss killed. That one is for The Rabbit Of Carroty Doom (not its official name).
I think that dungeon is so far the all-time winner for Silliest Dungeon Ever. Some people think that’s stupid, I like it.
Getting back to this — my human paladin finally broke down and bought the Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth, and while it’s available to all of my account’s Alliance toons, it’s unavailable to my Horde toons.
I have not logged on as any of my Horde alts…which are scattered across various servers, but on my main server (Elune), all of my alliance toons now have access to the motorcycle mount my mage built. (Yes, I know, engineering is not a great profession for a mage, but he’s a gnome, and it’s a RP thing. Sorta.)
I have two mages, and the hordie one is an engineer because she’s The Mistress Of The Ways. Being an engineer gives her the mage ports, plus the engineer ones… (well, it will, she’s still a pretty low level). This was inspired by my hunter having Portal Envy, because she has the engineer ports plus the Dalaran ring plus the Tourney tabard but there are times I’ve wished she had the other portals too.
One that was fun in a masochist kind of way was having a herbie/miner hunter dwarf back when you couldn’t detect everything simultaneously and dwarves detected treasure…
I’ve only done Brewing Storm and Fall of Theramore and neither of them really made me excited for scenarios. Since there’s no structure whatsoever it was mostly just a bunch of hyperactive people running around hitting things in complete chaos until we won (I’m not excluding myself from this statement).
You have to admit, it’s a bit of a change of pace from hyper-precisionist raid strats… “more dots… more dots… more dots… stop dots.” Sometimes, semi-organized screwing around PVE can be a lot of fun.
What frosts my lager is that at least one of the scenarios (Brewing Storm?) won’t complete its associated quest. Dammit. I completed the damn scenario, why didn’t the quest score? I didn’t enjoy that scenario all that much, so I don’t really wanna re-do it after they unbug the quest completion for it… but I don’t like dropping quests either. Feh.
A lot of the attraction (for me) is that you don’t have to wait for a tank and healer to bother themselves to join a group, and that they don’t consume as much time as a full instance. Right now, my playing time is limited. When I want to go in and whack stuff I don’t want to wait 30-45 minutes just to start.
I don’t like the Theramore one a lot (partly because I got saturated with it back when it was the only one), but others are a nice way to scratch that “get in a group” itch if I don’t really feel like running the risk of an Idiot In The Group (you can still get one, but they’re rarer than in dungeons and less harmful). I’m seeing them as a very good way to work out things like button distribution, macros etc, as they require less time than a dungeon. I like being able to have all-hunter groups again
Plus, sometimes that chest has really nice items inside. Really nice items are always a really nice plus.
Just a heads-up to those who have toons in The Knights Who Say Ja, Quasi’s guild on Alexstrasza - he’s wondering if any of y’all are still around. He doesn’t have as much time for the SDMB as he used to, so I thought I’d pass his question along for him
