I’ve tamed Loque, and then killed her on a later spawn after announcing her to the zone and hearing no takers. Yeah, I had good luck on Wrath with rarespawns, mostly. And yeah, the trick of logging out in Sholazar (flying at a substantial height, to avoid being ganked) and clearing cache before logging back in was a standard ritual for me while I was hunting that cat. Both times I was hunting it, in fact (for the tame and for the kill). There always seemed to be at least three hunters in Dalaran with that cat in tow any time I logged in there.
I actually had to resume hunting for Vyragosa after dinging 85 on my main (curing Cataclysm) before I got her. Basically, being in the habit of sticking to the spawn and patrol paths of that dragon in Storm Peaks any time I was transiting through there, for any reason, even if it took me a wee bit out of my way.
This is one I detected on an alt and logged out and back in on my main to get. Luck, I guess.
That’s hardcore douche. Why does it always seem to be the hunter? I apologize on behalf of hunters everywhere.
Can’t remember anything notable… Again, have this both as a tame and as a kill, and again in the latter case, made sure I announced it so that anyone who wanted a tame got a chance.
This is one of those achievements where RNG rules, and the only countermeasure is more cowbell. I mean more patience.
I enjoy rare mob hunts, so I dedicated three weeks to all the rare spawn achievements a few months ago.
Loque’nahak and Vyragosa were the rarest sightings for the Northrend batch. I managed to get Vryagosa early on above the Engine of the Makers while camping the Time-Lost Proto Drake and have only seen her dead once at Bor’s Breath since. Loque’nahak took about a week of hanging out with the gorillas after doing Frenzyheart dailies before she spawned. (It helps to have another purpose in the area.)
Terror Spinner and King Krush were the opposite, I saw them all the time. I saw Terror Spinner about 4 times west of Gundrak and south of the Altar of Quetz’lun while trying to get the raptor pet drop. Ditto for King Krush while doing dailies, at least 4 times in the time it took me to get Exalted with Frenzyheart. Just stop helping damned hunters and you’ll catch him eventually.
Not that I’m aware of. My captures never counted for Frostbitten, the times I did them. Cata didn’t have a “gotta kill 'em all” achievement like Frostbitten or the BC equivalent, Bloody Rare. And the MoP ones are all humanoids (Hozen, Jinyu, Mogu, Saurok, Yaungol, Pandarians, Mantids), so taming competition isn’t a factor. (Blizz finally got that right, I guess.)
My google-fu only turns up lots of forum posts complaining that taming doesn’t count, or asking to make taming count, for those achievements.
I’m guessing the all-humanoids nature of the MoP achievement was intended as an alternate solution to the hunter tame competition problem.
I’m glad to see this thread “waking up” a bit! I finally hit 90 and we’re flying again. Also huge kudos to my guildies, jayjay and ** Mister Rik** for kicking ass and advancing our guild levels as quickly as they are. We’re fixin’ to hit level 13! Rik also helped shop for some more PvP gear for Wolkie and he looks so mean I decided to leave his helm on!
Patch 5.2 will feature a somewhat brain-damaged (IMHO) rolldown of Valor Points… all your Valor Points will become Justice Points, but the former Valor Point gear won’t become JP gear. It’ll just become cheaper to buy in VP, but you’ll start out with 0 VP to buy them with.
I don’t raid, even LFR… so VP is just about the only hope of replacing any of my blues. But what I have left will cost more than a week’s worth of max VP, and I just don’t want to waste effort grinding out almost enough progress to buy an upgrade and lose it all some Tuesday.
So I’m feeling pretty dis-incentivized to grind any VP until after the patch hits live.
I was leveling my human Paladin in the Jade Forest a couple of days ago. I was working on the quest where you have to confront the Jade Witch. As I approached her house, I noticed that one of the statues was all “sparkly”. So I moused over it, and the little gear appeared. Clicked on the statue, and got a message along the lines of “This statue appears to be holding an unusual sword”, along with an option to “Take the sword”.
So I “took the sword”, and it turned out to be a Jade Infused Blade - a bind-to-Battle.net-account level 404 Blue item.
I don’t know if this was some sort of random event, or a reward for persistence in playing (this was my fourth character going through the Jade Witch quest), or what, but I’m not going to complain…
Amazing. I never expected forum complaining to actually change the devs’ minds. Of course, I have a terrible memory; it’s probably actually happened before, but I have certainly forgotten it.
And also, Infovore’s cite (going back to a quote of a blue forum post announcing this change to 5.2) answers my actual question about when 5.2 would drop:
So, it looks like March 6th will be the 5.2 go-live date. Mark your calendars, because it looks like there’s gonna be a boatload of interesting content… for raiders, and for non-.
That happened to me (finding the Jade Infused Blade) while I was actually questing on an Alliance alt on a different realm as my main and Horde toons…(actually, an abandoned toon that used to belong to one of my sons, back when we all shared this account).
Anyway, got the wild hair to see MoP from the other side, so grabbed my kid’s 85 Nelf mage and got him into Pandaria. I’m close to 86 now, and just did the Jade Witch encounter, and the sparkly sword is JUST RIGHT THERE… so grabbed it.
Kind of a shame the thing is trapped on a realm and faction where I won’t really be playing a toon that can use the thing (strength+stam 1h sword), and even if it’s BoA, I can’t transfer it to where it could do some good. Oh, well. I think the achievement is account-wide, so at least I got some credit.
I’ve started running scenarios with my BE Hunter now that she’s level 90, and twice now I’ve gotten this gun as the reward from the chest of treasures at the end. Unfortunately, both times, it’s been one of the versions with the STR boost, not the AGL boost a hunter needs.
I wonder why Bliizzard even has ranged weapons with STR bonuses any longer. Warriors can’t used ranged weapons any longer, can they?
I was complaining about that a couple months ago, after I misclicked at the AH and accidentally bought a STR bow that was right next to the AGI version of the same bow. I asked basically the same question: “Why is that even in the game?!”
You can get a weapon…I think an ilvl 463 weapon…for doing The Arena scenarion for the first time. the reward is in a chest after you finish the scenario.
Also, for free gear—as soon as you hit 90, join a Sha group. On your first kill, loot the corpse for a quest starter to turn in for some decent boots from the Shado Pan.
Leveling my tankadin almost feels like cheating. I can pull half a dozen or more mobs at a time. Of course, most of them are going to die of exhaustion from beating on my plate before I do much damage, but still…
I keep seeing “scenarios” now. Are those like raids/dungeons, etc. and can they be done solo? One is called Funky Monkey Juice and it has a queue option, so before I do that, I thought I’d check in here and see what I need to know.
They’re minidungeons, done in groups of three with no specific composition - you can find yourself with a group of three DPS or three tanks. If one decides to beat it, the other two can’t sign up for a replacement.
Most of them are pretty fast, but a few can get long (Theramore, I’m looking at you).
