MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

To answer my own question, yes, the daggers are replaced immediately–sorta. I went ahead and bought the pvp daggers, then learned that the very first quest in MoP gives a new dagger, as does another of the very early quests. I have both quest rewards in my bags, but I’m still using the pvp ones, which are slightly better stat wise and ilvl wise. I need to upgrade about 20 ilvls before I can queue for MoP dungeons.

Looks like the XP requirements for leveling have been slashed. I’m about halfway to 86, with one BG win, and questing through the hozen ship.

I concur. My leveling drive on my latest 90 (Paladin I mentioned earlier) was like this. I completed Jade Forest and less than 1/2 of Valley of Four Winds (just enough to get established in Halfhill) before moving on to Kun-Lai Summit area. Did that area through only one quest line (of the three possible ones: I did the quest chain that progressed westward to the Shadow-Pan encampment at the corner of the Serpent’s Spine wall; the others branch up into the upper valley of Kun-Lai (for the Grummles) and up into the moutains (for Lorewaker Cho and the Mogu)). Oh, yeah, and also opened up the Vale of Eternal (Blossoms|Sorrows) to get to the appropriate Shrine.

Completed the Shado-Pan quest chain in Townlong Steppes and transitioned to the Klaxxi chain in the Dread Wastes. Dinged 90 before getting 1/3 of the way through the Klaxxi sequence.

Very fast. There are whole quest chains all over Pandaria I’ve skipped on that toon, and at least once I abandoned the area because the quests were too low level. (Valley of the Four Winds)

I don’t know the PvP daggers you mention, but I suspect Wodin’s Mantid Shanker is better. And it’s free for the taking in the northern part of the Jade Forest. Easier to get to if you’re Horde, but I don’t think it’s a great hardship even if you’re not. Usable from level 85, 2024 – 3038 Damage (1406.1 dps), +222 Agility, +334 Stamina, +148 Critical Strike, +148 Mastery. And BOA, and available to each toon in the game, so if you fetch it on higher-level toons you can forward it to your rogue in the mail.

Since discovering about these BoA “Lost Treasures of Pandaria”, I’ve twinked every new toon entering Pandaria with these.

I feel bad. I just bought 4 living steel off the auction house, each listed for 3 gold. I mean, obviously the seller mistyped the number. But if I didn’t grab them up like a jerk, someone else would have in a few minutes.

Wow…very nice. I’ll try to get that for my rogue. Thanks.

My monk is chopping through Pandaria with the Spear of Xuen. No point in getting something else until I hit 90. Then to rummage through my closet of Timeless gear…

Well, I went ahead and did it. I preordered the Digital Deluxe version of WoD (the mount you get with that is very nice). And I used my free 90 boost on Dugramm, my orc rogue in the Burning Dog Legion. I had already decided that he was going to get the boost, because I wanted to have an orc to take to Draenor. Before this, my only high-level Horde toons were my tauren paladin (90) and my troll hunter (86).

I already have a draenei at 90 (my warrior), and another at 87 (my mage).

So, I allowed myself to be suckered into downloading, installing, and playing Hearthstone just long enough to get three wins and have Blizz give me a new mount in WoW.

I resisted setting up a battletag for years, but you have to install the Battle.net “I wanna be Steam” app to download and start HearthStone, and you have to have a battletag to use the app, so… shrug. My battletag isn’t very descriptive (actually, it’s actively counter-descriptive) so I figure it’s still somewhat isolated from my real-world identity and I’ll probably never actually use it.

Anyway, the game is mildly amusing. I hate that you have to lose a lot in order to figure out how to win, but it only took me less than an hour (including the unskippable tutorial fights against the AI) to get my three wins, collect my flying horsie, and uninstall all that crap with extreme prejudice.

(I don’t get TCGs. I completely don’t get MMO simulated TCGs.)

As poorly as I played (in every loss, I fireballed my own character at least once… because I couldn’t get the hang of the UI), I still got the wins I needed pretty quickly once I could get myself laddered down back with the other absolute n00bs… whose play typically made me feel like a tactical genius.

Anyway, that’s another mount towards 200, and with only a minimum of grinding and a fairly small hit to my dignity. If only the other mounts I wanted were that easy to farm.

ETA: My eight-year-old daughter, who’s a stereotypical horse fanatic, loves the hearth-horsie. So that’s good too.

I boosted my other combat rogue from 55 to 90 last night.

FYI, since I couldn’t find the answer in my admittedly brief skim of a few threads on the WoW board, all the stuff in your bank and bags remain on your toon. Since you are given new inventory bags, I worried that my stuff might get vaporized, but everything was waiting for me in my mail. Your bag slots in your bank remain as they are. You get 150 gold, which is added to whatever gold your toon already has.

I had to redo my action bars in Bartender, but I can’t tell if that’s because I switched specs on the boost or if it resets regardless.

It’s apparently a known bug, but some of my alts got 2 copies of the pet and mount and some got nothing.

Also, I heard some people materialized on Timeless Isle after the boost. I landed at the Shrine of Two Moons with my goblin face firmly gazing into the belly of a large Tauren warrior. Awkward.

My rogue is only about 12 bars from 90 now. I’ve got several pieces of Timeless Isle gear waiting, maybe 1200 justice points, and about 3400 honor or so. Going to have to start hitting some of the advice sites to improve my DPS. At the moment, I’m only doing about 14K against single targets in assassination spec, at ilvl 415. I expect to see a huge jump with the level and gear upgrades, enchants, etc., but I suspect I need to play smarter.

What spec are PVE rogues using most these days?

What’s annoying me is that the mount and pet continue to appear in the mailboxes of all of my alts, even though I’ve already “learned” both of them and they’re account-wide … and it won’t let me delete them directly from the mailbox. Apparently, I’m going to have to manually collect them from the mailbox on every one of my alts, and then delete them from my bags.

Yeah, I’m so not looking forward to getting that fixed up. My alts are already pressed for space.
To my list of boosted-character changes:
All my lvl 57ish quests were automatically removed from my inbox, and when I appeared at the Shrine, I had one quest to meet up with Chromie somewhere/sometime.
I spent Saturday on my boosted rogue: Alchemy and Herbalistm to 400, grinding rep to Honored with Thrallmar, and farming the farmable Alchemy recipes. I’m intent on getting all the Outland recipes, which unfortunately means getting exalted with Mag’har, Sha’tar, Cenarion Expedition, Sporeggar, etc. all over again. God, do I wish reputations were account-wide. At least the farmable recipes dropped fairly quickly.

Oakminster, I think most endgame rogues are still using Assassination. Combat is getting more respect than it used to, sort of like how Ret paladins did a while back.

I found the rogue spec guides on Icy Veins to be helpful in terms of gear, enchants, gems, rotations, weapons, stat priorities, etc.

Depends on your gear really, while personally I’ve made it to 13/14 in HC SoO as Assassination, once you get the cooldown reduction trinket(Assurance of Consequence) Combat is king this tier, especially on cleave fights.

Oh, that warms my heart.

Well, to be accurate, that trinket gives me a girl boner and that bit about Combat warms my heart. I’ve played Combat since 2008 or so and although I don’t raid, I am glad to hear it’s not just viable, but shining.

It seems this may have been just a “first day” problem, because the next day the mount/pet had disappeared from my alts’ inboxes.

Thanks for that. Looks like I was completely screwing up my rotation and made some poor choices with my talents. I hit 90, so now I’m working on gear.

I just pre-ordered the deluxe edition of WoD as well. Boosted my lvl 42 lock who had been languishing. I didn’t read the fine print about tradeskills, though; now I have to fund this toons grind from < 200 on almost every skill to 600. Sigh.

Also, I have no damn idea how to play a lvl 90 destro. So there is that.

Destro has a pretty simple priority list (found on Icy Veins and other websites), the hard part is watching your temporary buffs and figuring out when to dump all your Burning Embers.

You want to line up as many procs/on demand temporary boosts and use that time to refresh immolate and spend all the embers you’ve been saving on Shadowburn/Chaos Bolt. Addons that track the internal cooldown on your trinkets and the power of you current immolate really help. You don’t want to overwrite a powerful DOT with the baseline version.

Well, with a lot of help from Quasi, my guild, <Order of The Rik> reached level 25 today

Congratulations!
