MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

I was saddened a bit that the guild hit 25 when I turned in a PvP quest in Wintergrasp. I was the only player in the zone, so when the “<Order of The Rik> has reached level 25” thing popped up, there was nobody but me to see it. Even Quasi was offline - he specifically told me that he was going to back off playing his toons in my guild so that I could be the one to push us up to 25. So I got the guild to 25, and there was nobody to say, “Hey, grats!” :frowning:

I know Quasi doesn’t post here anymore, but he still lurks, so I’ll take this opportunity to give a big “Thank you, Quasi, for all your work!” At the beginning of MoP, <Order of The Rik> was, IIRC, level 9, and I’d gotten the guild that far all by myself. So after some of my alts helped Quasi to get his guild to 25, he rolled a rogue on Lightbringer to help me get my guild leveled up. So Quasi has two 90s now, and given that my new job, which I started about 7 months ago, doesn’t give me as much spare time to play WoW as my previous job did, Quasi did most of the work. So big thanks for that, Quasi!

.

Well, that’s not technically true, Rik. If you’ll check the guild totals you’ll see that Elysanna is in the number one overall position, and that’s your toon.

I decided to post this once because I needed to come clean about something, and I wouldn’t feel right otherwise. Rik had a lot to “put up with” with me. I am, after all a bat-shit 64 year old guy, so I have him to thank for his infinite patience. There must have been many times when he felt like kicking me, but didn’t and that is to his credit, what with all the repetitive questions and the faulty strategy due to my still not understanding the ins and outs all that well.

I was dog-tired when you came on last night, my friend, which is why I posted “Take us home, Red Leader” and then signed off. So a belated “GRATZ” to the “Order of The Rik” and especially to you my friend. You really helped me advance and gave me some great help when I needed it which gave me the same confidence with Hannës that everyone here provided me while I played Wolkenlaufre.

We both have several alts we need to advance, so what’s next, Red Leader?

Thanks

Bill

Well, it’s delayed, and on the wrong server, in the wrong battlegroup, and the wrong faction, but Sniperorc of Azgalor says “Hey, grats!”. (In Dwarvish, the only Alliance language he knows*, but whatever.)

*Yeah, he doesn’t officially know it in the game. It’s an RP thing.

I was doing Magtheridon’s Lair last night on my Tauren elemental shaman. I had Mag down to 20% – a mere 10 or 15 seconds from victory – and it was going swimmingly when the cable internet went offline. (Lots of high winds in the area; I think maybe a tree branch might have knocked down something, like part of the cable infrastructure still strung up on poles rather than very sensibly buried.)

When I finally reconnected this morning, Mag was gone and I had no loot, but I had my raid lockout on him. No shot at T4 chest until next week. :frowning:

I’ve upgraded my rogue’s gear considerably. Got a PVP dagger and another from the LFR version of the first wing in SOO. Great stats, but whoever did the graphics for these daggers must be smoking crack. The damn things are huge…look like they prolly weigh 40 pounds each, and my poor rogue would likely struggle to swing one of them with both hands. I like having cool looking weapons and all, but come on…these are not the tools of the trade for a lurker in shadows to make with the stabbity-stabbity.

Transmogis your friend.

Pick a look, figure out where it drops (or even where to buy it), and go get it.

My Tauren ele sham is rockin’ a very Tauren-looking shield (quest reward from a lowbie quest chain in the Southern Barrens) and a very Tauren-looking mace (cash purchase in Zangarmarsh after getting Honored rep with Cenarion Expedition).

I’ll pull together a full T6 ele sham armor set eventually, because mismatched mish-mash faux-Chinese armor just isn’t making it for me.

Tell me about it!

Here’s my paladin in her red transmog:

The armor is the TBC “starter” PvP set (for which I had to go back and grind to Honored with damn near every faction in Outland because each piece was sold by a different faction) + some red boots and red belt that I found somewhere. The sword, of course, is good old Endbringer.

My guild tabard is also normally red, but I temporarily changed the colors to honor the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl victory. The emblem was the closest one I could find to a trophy.

I already mentioned that I used my WoD pre-order lvl 90 boost on my orc rogue, Dugramm, and thanks to all my other 90s, he had an almost complete set of Timeless Isle gear awaiting him. Sadly, that doesn’t include weapons, so he’s still wielding the 483 daggers he got with the boost, and even with all the 496 gear he’s finding TI kind of rough. Since I don’t raid or even do dungeons any more, that means he needs to get some PvP daggers.

So, he hied himself off to the Isle of Thunder. He stabbed his way through all five (six?) solo scenarios in one sitting. My other six 90s all opened up the IoT long before the TI showed up, so were much more poorly geared. Let me tell you, running this rogue through those scenarios was almost a cakewalk (and good thing, too, since he can’t even use Heavy Windwool Bandages - his First Aid isn’t high enough). Of course, he also had the benefit of my having done those scenarios six times before. He only died once, to the same mob that gave all of my other toons trouble - that troll boss in the ship.

Anyway, having opened up the IoT, he set about doing his first set of PvP quests, sans any PvP gear. And, of course, he got jumped. Thankfully, he got jumped by what I can only assume was a boosted level 90 warlock, played by a very inexperienced warlock player. I wouldn’t have even known the warlock was there if he hadn’t run right up into melee range (I’m guessing he was doing the Alliance “disarm the mana bombs” quest at the same time I was doing the Horde “plant some mana bombs” quest, and he arrived at the Alliance “supplies” bomb mere seconds after I did, and didn’t see me quickly enough).

Not wanting to wait around to find out how tough this warlock was, I hit Stealth (I think he was as surprised to see me as I was to see him), but I think he inadvertently hit me with a melee attack simultaneously, so I popped right back out of Stealth. So I hit Vanish and ran away  My clue that the guy wasn’t an experienced warlock was the fact that he didn’t hit me with a DoT. A DoT would have popped me right back out of stealth again after my Vanish. I think every warlock who has attacked me ever has started with a DoT, but not this guy. And apparently he wasn’t interested in hunting me down, because when I came back to plant the last bomb, he was gone.

Anyway, that kind of thing is exactly why I chose to boost a class/spec that I already knew how to play at level 90.

Check out the April Fool’s “Patch Notes” for 6.0. Comedy gold!

Some favorites:
Death Knight: “Using Death Grip on something larger than your character will cause you to be pulled toward the creature instead of the creature being pulled toward you. Gnomes should just probably not be Death Knights.”

Druid: “Chatting while in Cat Form will now be presented with poor spelling, in all caps, using the Impact font.”

Priest: “Chakra, when the walls fell.”

Hunter: “Aspect of the Pack has been renamed to Aspect of the Doge. Many daze, much anger, so mystery, wow!”

Mage: “Using the Mage spell Blink will now attract the attention of creepy angel statues. Don’t “Blink.””

Rogue: “To help resolve spelling issues once and for all, Rogues have been renamed to Blush.”

Raids, Dungeons, and Scenarios: “Due to recent acquisitions, The Oculus is temporarily inaccessible.” and “Onyxia has stopped breathing altogether. Emergency services have been contacted and are en route.”
OMG. I have not usually been much impressed with the April Fools’ patch notes in history, but this time out they’re batting 1.000.

I lol’d. I’ll admit it. Particularly the hunter one, because, you know, I’ve been there.

BWA-HA-HA!

Paladin: Turn Evil can now be cast on players and NPCs. When used, it applies a small dark goatee and causes them to constantly explain their diabolical plans while steepling their fingers.

Shaman: Rolling Thunder now also causes lightning to strike.

(I would have said, “Rolling Thunder is now followed by Pouring Rain, coming on like a hurricane.”)

((Then again, maybe that one was serious. I think there are some real ones hidden amongst the jokes.))

I really liked this one:

“Due to PvE gear being so much better in world PvP, we’re now offering all PvE content to those who only purchased the PvP version of the game.”

Don’t forget the WoD faction changequest!

Corialis, Crazy Cat Man of Darnassus, would resub if this was real.

Well this is somewhat disturbing. After the passing of Autolycus, I didn’t have the heart to remove him from my Battle.net Friends list. But at least the in-game Friends list finally stopped telling me how long it had been since he last logged in (he didn’t play WoW, he played Diablo 3, and I got his Battle Tag from the D3 thread when that game first launched).

Now the new Battle.net client has added a chat function, so that you can chat with your friends even when you’re not logged into a game … and it’s telling me that Autolycus last logged in 21 days ago.

Account hack? Or a friend/relative taking over the account maybe…

I dunno. The in-game Friends list still shows nothing. Maybe Blizz pinged everybody’s account when they were doing the final testing on the chat feature, and that’s what I’m seeing.

I finally found something worth making with Blacksmithing–Ghost Shard daggers. I’ve been able to sell 4 of them for 1500 gold each. The only hard to get material is harmonies, and I’ve been farming them at the ranch. I’ve been trying to sell a set of the ooper-pants, but no luck…and I’m seeing them listed now for less than 5000 on the auction house. I guess every blacksmith is swimming in balance trillium once they make their own pants and belt, and everyone who needs a set already has them. Which is why I figure the daggers are selling–most blacksmiths are plate-wearers who need strength gear, so there aren’t many agility guys who can make agility weapons.

And I got my last burden of eternity, so I’ve got full upgraded timeless gear, except the trinkets which you have to buy for 50000 timeless coins. That’s a lot of grinding.

I mentioned some time back that my rogue had found a Battered Hilt while running ICC dungeons for Tushui Pandaren rep. I finally got around to doing the quest chain, and am now the proud owner of Quel’Delar, Cunning of the Shadows. And it’s utterly useless to me. I knew already that I was going to end up with a “version of Quel’Delar” appropriate to my class, but I was hoping I’d get to choose a Q’D dagger, because Theloise is a Sub rogue. Nope, got a 1-hand sword, which I can’t even use to transmog her daggers. Oh well, I guess she can wear it with one of her RP outfits sigh

The reason that it took me so long to get around to doing the quest chain is because I knew I’d have to take the sword to the Sunwell, and I assumed that meant I’d need to fight my way there through the raid. So I’d been putting it off, only to discover that the Sunwell portion of the chain takes place in an phased version of the raid, as it exists now, not as it existed during TBC. Which makes sense, I guess.

Also, it would appear that Vereesa Windrunner no longer yells an announcement to everybody in Dalaran that somebody has just reclaimed Quel’Delar. Or maybe she only announces it if you complete the chain at level 80.

The wonders of child labor–I just had my kids collect 500 eggs to buy the Springstrider mount for Noblegarden. I mean, I already had one from last year, but figure I can convert this one to cash.

One thing I can’t understand is how this mount can be listed for several thousand gold on the auction house. It only takes 2 hours max to collect the eggs needed, just dinking around one of the starter villages. It’s a really easy mount to get. So why would someone pay 3000 gold for one? Of course listed items don’t mean actual sales, but items trend down to the actual buying price. Every so often I check mount prices hoping for a deal, and I never see this mount listed for less than 3000. When I compare the 2 hours of bucolic egg hunting for this mount with the two weeks of grinding Klaaxi dailies to get my scorpion mount, I can’t understand the AH price.

Agreed - I got that mount last year, and it took no time at all to farm up the eggs.
