(TBH, I’ve only ever played combat on my rogues. I guess it’s out of vogue now, but my main’s a marksman hunter so obviously that has never mattered to me.)
Yeah, I was nervous about this on my main back in the day (the aforementioned hunter, back when you could use the appropriate two-handed sword as a stat stick… and Ferocity of the Scorned made a damn fine hunter stat stick). I went into the Sunwell raid portal fully expecting to die (after fake-raiding with an alt on a second account) but was pleased to discover I wouldn’t have to chain feign-death my way through the instance.
Really? That’s a shame. (Well, TBH, it probably wouldn’t be Vereesa in my case, since the toons I’d be interested in doing this with are all Horde.) The last time I did the quest chain was during Wrath, and I admit I enjoyed the attention. You still get announcements for most raid boss turnins… for Ony, for Blackwing, for Algalon… (the Algalon event is still very cool, although it seems I see it about once a week).
My observation from last year is that egg-gathering was much more heavily camped. You could spend two hours trying to get a dozen eggs, with every spawn point camped by at least one toon.
I gave up after trying a while because it was evident that I’d never have enough patience to see it through on a high-population PvP server (especially with the intermittent gank raids while you’re still flagged). And also because I discovered that one of my sons (whom I had been sharing the account with) had gotten the mount on one of his toons, and after the “all mounts for all characters” changes I didn’t need to get one of my own. :smack:
Frankly, there’s nothing I need in Noblegarden any more. I suppose the Tome of Polymorph into bunny rabbit would be cool, but I already use a non-standard polymorph (porcupine) and I’d feel funny Arcane Blasting a harmless little bunny rabbit. Even if it’s really a ravening Mogu or something.
For anyone frustrated by egg camping you could always roll a new character on a low pop server, the egg gathering areas are very near the start areas. The Draeni village is probably the least populated.
I’ve tried Combat a few times, never liked it. Rolling Subtlety was when I finally started to get somewhere with a rogue. I haven’t really tried Assassination, though.
I saw somebody in Goldshire trying to sell a “3-egg camp spot”.
I can’t camp. Boooooooorrrrrrriiiiinnng! I prefer to run around snatching every uncamped egg I see. I also discovered that nobody seems to be aware that an egg spawns in that tent in Kharanos, near the flight point. When I first hit Kharanos on my human warlock (on the first day of the holiday), there were quite a few campers, but I was still able to quickly gather enough eggs to turn in the daily quest. I left to do other things and then came back later. It was still fairly early, only about 8PM Pacific, and the place was deserted. All the eggs for me! I really don’t need to do this holiday, as I already have the title and the mount, but I wanted the new Black Bunny Ears for my warlock.
Given that I’m only [School of Hard Knocks] short of [What a Long Strange Trip], the only holidays I really bother with any more are the ones that have things to hit all over the world, like the Fire Festival. Those holidays are great for racking up a lot of XP for my leveling toons.
And finally, after 520 or so wipes, I got myself the ‘Hellscream’s Downfall’ title, and my guild got another Realm First! achievement(not that there was much competition).
But not a single heirloom.
I’m pushing myself through TBC content to collect all Alchemy recipes. Although it’s painful getting exalted reputations for the 2nd or 3rd time, I have to say I really like the variety of ways you learned recipes in this expansion - a nice mix of drops, reputation grinds, and discovery. It gave me a lot to do over the last few weeks. I’m still working toward some TBC recipes even though I have all the MoP and most of the Cata and WoTLK ones.
Sold one of the springstriders for 2000 gold today. Wow. Hard to believe. I guess I was undercutting the price since everyone else was offering them for 3000, but I figured nobody was buying at that price. I actually got three springstriders this year, two characters dug up 500 chocolates each, and I got a free one in an egg.
I’ve been playing again recently, I’m having fun doing dailies, though I’m still way too chicken to do LFR/LFD. I rolled a brewmaster and the few times I’ve tanked it’s been fun, but I just don’t know any of the dungeons and I’m just afraid of the abuse if I screw up.
That said, I’ve had fun doing old raids as well as dailies. I beat Ahn’Qiraj to try and get the pet (didn’t drop, sadly), and while I was returning the Eye of C’thun I decided to go ahead and do Twilight of the Gods (or whatever it’s called in WoW, Defense of Hyjal Summit maybe? It’s the cavern of times version of the Warcraft III mission Twilight of the Gods). I’m currently wondering if it’s possible for me to do WoTLK raids, since I never got to see the end of ICC, though I do remember our guild getting through ToC. Sadly, I know I can’t solo Cata and I really want to see Dragon Soul, but oh well, maybe after WoD comes out.
If anyone wants to play on Cairne again it could be fun to have some chat going.
Well, I’m still on Cairne, and more often now that I boosted my orc rogue, Dugramm, to 90. Yesterday I finally got his Mining and Skinning up to where he can now mine productively in Pandaria and actually skin the mobs he kills. Then I bought a big pile of cloth and leveled his First Aid from 150 to 600 so that he can finally use that stack of bandages Donoma sent to him.
I got tired of playing my Shadow priest and always just seeing a shadow, never my character or gear. Disc healing just seems different from what I’m used to, and Holy, which I enjoyed in the past, I guess is mostly for raid healing now, so I think I’m going to bench my priest and start fresh.
I picked up a hunter and it took me quite a while to figure out what I needed to do to get a different pet at level 10. Also, I got lost in Orgrimmar often because I’ve mostly played Alliance.
Eventually I figured out that the Tame Beast skill was telling me I already had a full roster of pets, even though I only had a boar. So I figured it out and was able to stable the boar and Tame a spider after quite a lot of confusion.
You will get more active pet slots as you level, so the stable shuffle won’t really last long, unless you really like using different pets all the time. Remember that there are really only three “families” of pet: Tenacity, Ferocity and Cunning. Tenacity is your tank class, Ferocity is your DPS class, and Cunning is mostly for PVP. Individual types of pets have unique powers (Turtles have a force field, for example) but the big divide is Tenacity and Ferocity (Cunning isn’t really useful in PVE play).
Those are specializations these days, while each actual pet family will come with a default spec(eg, cats will be Ferocity when tamed) it can be changed at any time when you’re not in combat.
ETA:Petopia is the place to go for everything you ever wanted to know about hunter pets.
Leveling a hunter is ridiculously easy. You might want/need a tenacity pet if you’re leveling as marks or survival. But if you’re beast mastery, any spec of pet will be able to hold aggro. I prefer to level as BM spec because it’s the easiest/funnest.
It’s definitely not a great idea to step foot into LFR as a tank (monk or otherwise) without knowing the fights. But you could respec windwalker and DPS to learn them. Just turn off raid chat and find a geared melee dps to assist. Once you’ve done them a few times as DPS, go to youtube and watch the fights from a tank perspective. Also, read the dungeon journal, gem/enchant fully, and you’ll be golden.
You can even change your loot spec to brewmaster while DPSing, so you get tank loot from raids. That’ll help you when you go back as a tank later.
If you want, you can group up with me on my OP disc priest and we can do some LFRs together (I’m pretty sure you can queue cross-realm for those). You’ll get a quick queue because I heal. If you’re interested, send me a PM with your battletag! My fiance is a dps who can come with us, and he knows almost all the raids on heroic mode (and all of them on normal). He leads his guild’s raids, so he can probably give you tank tips.
I’ve been off for a year and change (just after Pandaria went live), and for whatever reason decided to re-subscribe yesterday. I’ll be kicking around Cairne at various and irregular hours. I’ve got to wrap my brain around some of the big changes (ie, skill tree turning into a tiered, limited option thing); I’m feeling quite n00b-ish.
I’m not sure it even matters. I’ve found that regardless of which spec I’m on, I get the same drops on Timeless Isles, and the same list of gear from quatermasters/point vendors. Hell, Mr. Robot (assuming the tool is still accurate) recommends basically the same gear. Though obviously the tier set bonuses are different between specs so there’s that. It seems like the two have basically the same stat priority, except Brewmasters value expertise a little more highly.
