MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

Your powers of observation are really quite impressive…

What are people stocking up to sell at the start of MoP? I have bags and leather (new monk leatherworkers I am thinking) at the moment but not much else.

Cheap current-expansion profession mats, ie. uncommon-level gems, dust, ore. Prices are always dirt cheap mid/late expansion and become more expensive as fewer are gathered ‘naturally’ by max level toons; plus the general gold-inflation that happens every expansion. This isn’t a ‘first week of MoP’ strategy, but more long-term inflation-protection strategy.

I’ve also got some transmog gear that I never got around to selling since I wasn’t really playing when transmog hit. I have a Teebu’s Blazing Longsword on Duskwood and a Blade of Wizardry on Cairne for exaple.

All in all I’m not trying to win the AH game so much as have enough to get a head-start in MoP.

Oh…hai.

I guess I should be paying more attention.

Will check in on WoW more often, but I have been playing a bit of D3 the last couple of months.

I still have some mats and Gold for the BurningDogs in Cairne…I can still crank out more gems and BS items also.

Glyphs and inks. It’s not a license to print money on my backwater server like it used to be, but it’s still a way to get some extra gold those first few weeks.

I’ve been picking up tree, and dancing my tree ass off while merrily hotting everything up. So much fun. And I never run out of mana, even in Ramps with four “tanks”. :o

Also picking up holy paladin and rogue for RP reasons (one has GOOD INTENTIONS, the other is a sheep smuggler), and enh shaman (Herald of the Titans). I’ve also been informed that I have a priest problem to add to my DK problem. :D?

My poor arms warrior, though. Not having Slam as a cast-time any more is screwing up my reactions and (arguably worse) his rotation doesn’t feel as rawr-face-smashingly visceral any more. Let’s just say that he is spending lots of quality time with target dummies these days…

Yeah, I’m having trouble figuring out a new rotation for my warrior. I hadn’t used Slam much in the past (largely because of the cast time), but I guess I’ll need to start working it in more.

COME ON! Make time go faster! I am prepared for monk-boosting with bags, every single glyph currently in-game, and a full set of level 80 gear ready to go. I just got a new video card for my birthday. I’m getting a nice, new mouse because the buttons on mine are failing. Old guildmates I haven’t seen in months are finally resubbing. I just want pandas to get here already!

As far as gold-making, I’ve made a bunch of the monk glyphs and plan to assault the auction house with them the night before MoP. I already tried listing them a couple times (undercutting other scribes who were doing the same), but nobody’s buying yet. I guess nobody else plans ahead like me! Or everyone has their own scribe alts… boo. Alternatively, archaeology isn’t a bad way to farm gold and achievements (and cool BOA items/pets/mounts) at the same time. I ran across a common WOTLK artifact that vendored for 200g. I got the sandstone drake recipe, too. You could farm at Alcaz Island and AH the runecloth. Some rare transmog greens also drop there rarely (like the Glorious legplates, which people are willing to transfer and buy for 30k+). You could do dailies, which no longer have a limit. You could farm midlevel ores or herbs in anticipation of people leveling monk professions (thorium and mithril are usually a good bet).

The account hackers are out in full force. Yesterday I got two emails from “Blizzard” advising me that my account information had been changed, and I needed to click the handy link provided in the email to confirm my details. Of course, the links all pointed to “clickmesoIcan robyouandyourguildbankblind.com/dumbass*”. The interesting part was that both emails came to an account that is not now and never has been tied to my (currently inactive) WoW account.
*not the actual url, but close. Well, not really close, but you get the idea.

You want anyone to send you a scroll of resurrection?

Thanks, but I’m not sure if I’ll return to WoW. Still looking for work/considering hanging my own shingle, so the entertainment budget is pretty slim these days.

If we don’t equip fishing poles anymore, does that mean Fishing Buddy’s double-click cast is permanently broken?

You can still equip a pole if you want.

And if you have a pole with +fishing stats on it you need to equip it to get the bonus.

Our guild has decided to do level 70 content regularly so I am in the process of getting my hunter to 70 (3 levels to go…) so I can join in. Does anyone know of any good resources for max-ing out level 70s? Most of the 70 twink stuff I have found is PvP oriented.

Is the rest of your guild 70, or are they 85s? If they are 85 and going back to do old content for fun, then you should be able to pick up plenty of loot drops. And no matter what your gear looks like, they won’t be counting on you to do competitive dps, due to the level difference.

Do you have all the expansions up to Cata? Do you have an 85 character? If not, then the PVP stuff is likely the best you can get. Just so you’re aware, twinking is *very *expensive. If you have at LEAST the expansions up to Wrath of the Lich King, you’d want to turn off your XP and do quests in Borean Tundra/Howling Fjord. Another option is to look for level 68-70 Northrend greens on the auction house. They’ll probably be out of your price range though, unless you have an 85 to bankroll your twink. But honestly, the PVP stuff is pretty good. So, if nothing else, you can just farm honor in Alterac Valley and buy those pieces over time.

Make sure to turn off your experience gain, otherwise you’ll ding past 70 fairly quickly in your quest for gear.

Public service announcement: World of Warcraft Screenshots Contain Your Account Info

Not exactly… http://wow.joystiq.com/2012/09/11/blizzard-may-be-hiding-information-in-your-screenshots-but-it-c/

On the one hand, WoW Insider is (obviously) very pro-WoW and pro-Blizzard; they tend to paint things in the best possible light. On the other hand, to my knowledge they don’t knowingly post outright misinformation. So I’ll give it a grudging concession for now.

I have a few 85s thanks so money not a problem, luckily last night someone who recently joined our guild said casually ‘oh I have 4 level 70 twinks and can join in, here is what we need to do…’ which was convenient. So we are running BC heroics first after gearing up in Northrend as you say, picked up a few AH pieces too.

If Blizzard were putting data into screenshots why make it visible at all? There are plenty of ways of hiding data in image files that are not visible.

Since it was on sale(and the euro is cheap too!), I just bough a Pandaren Monk pet from the Blizzard Store. For some reason, I feel very very dirty for spending real money on in-game vanity items.

Well yes, the data encoded in the image is not visible, but can be decrypted. People other than Blizzard have figured out how to decrypt it.
