I did Blackwing Lair years ago as a 60 and can attest that it is a giant PITA - I can’t imagine wanting to go back in there for any reason. Ever!
Except, aren’t they doing a reboot of Blackwing Lair for the next expansion?
Yep there’s an SDMB guild on Cairne. Not a lot of action currently, but I’m hoping/assuming it’ll pick up when WoD hits.
All the more reason to get it done now, so I can say “I saw it when”!
With the unavoidable prevalence* of Battle.net Battletags, I think you can friend/invite/group regardless of realms. Never tried, but that’s my impression reading the contradictory and confusing “info” on the forums.
*Since Blizz replaced the normal WoW launcher with the Battle.net one, you have to have a Battletag to play WoW. If you use the launcher, anyway. I suppose if you just directly execute the WoW program, you avoid that silliness, but I haven’t gone that far yet. There’s significant propaganda about why you should still use a launcher, but I can’t remember a single concrete reason why it’s advantageous to ME. (Instead of advantageous to Blizzard. That’s how marketing works. It’s good for me because it’s actually good for them.)
ETA: Just remembered the only one that seems to matter to me: patching the game. So that’s not an all-the-time kind of thing.

^^Looks great! I think I remember seeing and liking that set back in the day, when most of the Pallies were wearing Lightforge with the shoulders stacked halfway up their heads.
I’d been grinding my little recent-90 rogue along in the Scenarios and Heroic Panda dungeons, trying to scratch together some decent gear so that I can ease into raiding one of these days.
Then today, I stumbled across the Timeless Isle area, where apparently they just hand out purples to anyone with a pulse, that surpass anything you can get in Scenarios or Heroics. 
The tokens turn into ilvl496 gear, I think. If you find a Burden of Eternity, it can be used with a token to create a higher level item. With all the chests and such, you can get a full set of Timeless gear in a few hours, which is plenty for starting Raid Finder runs.
Also, once per week you can kill a Celestial for a chance at really nice pve or pvp gear. Bonus rolls apply as well, but the drop rate isn’t great. My rogue has a couple dozen rolls, and only two pieces of gear dropped…both pants, but thankfully one was pvp and one was pve.
Thamks! Alas, completing this set has filled my bank completely up. And my void storage is full, too. Fortunately, there’s some relief for that situation coming in WoD, but I still need to go through my bank a sacrifice some stuff that I’m never going to use.
Yep, that’s pretty much what I’ve been doing the last couple days, hanging around Timeless Isle, started a few of the quests (the Rolo riddle quest chain was frustrating but I finally figured it out) and trying to start the grind for 100k coins for that mount.
Haven’t found any Burdens yet, but have found eight or so 496-level epics, no weapons, sadly… which has brought me up to 475. Good enough to queue for a raid last night, where I got zip but enjoyed getting my feet wet.
It’s been a great week for pets. I fished up two tiny white carp yesterday, a green and a white, which pleased me since they were the first I’d seen, outside the auction house. A trip through Serpentshrine netted me a Tideskipper pet, plus I caught Mr. Pinchy, who gave me three crawdad pets. I sold two of them for a tidy profit. Plus I got a strand crawler and a bucket crocolisk pet from fishing dailies. Those additions took me over 75 pets, so I got the baby deer to boot.
I’m starting to wonder if they nerfed the drop rate on those. I can’t even remember the last time I got one.
No weapons on the Timeless Isle (aside from the occasional green drop).
Got even more pets today - I had two of the Azure Crane Chicks drop from raiding crane nests within about 30 minutes of each other. Plan to sell the second in the AH when I get a chance. Looks like they sell for a fair amount (600-800g) on my server. I’m saving up for one of those fancy 3-seater mammoth mounts, since I never had one in Lich King days.
So is there a full, head-to-toe level 496 set available in Timeless Isle? I got a trinket today, for the first time, but still haven’t gotten shoulders, feet, or hands. Maybe I’ll luck out and score some new weapons with raiding pretty soon.
Yep, full set. And the nice this is, as long as you don’t use the “raw” pieces, you can hang on to them for later to use for alts or for other specs. I’ve got a full set of level 90 gear waiting for my 87 mage if I ever get around to leveling him up.
I’m not sure I’ll bother saving all the extra “raw” items because there’s so many (ain’t nobody got bank space for all that!) and when I get around to leveling another toon, they’ll probably be headed for 100, not 90 anymore. I might set aside some cloth for my priest who’s 83 right now.
So I missed the Cataclysm expansion. Stupid question - where is the Worgen noobtown? I want to get my rep up with them so I can get their mounts for my collection. I always accomplished this in the past by going to the faction’s starting area and doing all the low level quests until I was exalted - I presume this can be done with the Worgens but I’m not sure where to start.
Nope. Cataclysm races (worgen and goblin) are phased. You can’t get to their starting areas unless you’re a worgen or goblin. Goblins are basically set up in Azshara now, but I don’t think the worgen have their own “zone”.
How does one get Exalted with Gilneas then? If you do, can you buy their mounts?
Buy a tabard frpm the Gilneas Quartermaster in Darnassus (he hangs out next to the flight point in Darnassus proper) and run dungeons. I’m doing that right now on my main.
There are also various worgen questgivers scattered around the world, and you can get Gilneas rep by doing their quests. Off the top of my head, there is a Gilnean settlement in Blasted Lands, near the ocean south of the Dark Portal, and there are some worgen questgivers in Duskwood, at Raven Hill. There are also some in Felwood.
BTW, what server are you on? My Alliance toons are on Lightbringer and Alexstrasza, and for RP I have Alliance toons on Wyrmrest Accord. For Horde, I’m on Cairne and Cenarion Circle.
I’m on Draenor, which is linked to Echo Isles. I started out on Malygos at launch with my rogue, and then decided to roll a holy priest on Draenor because some friends were playing on that server and they needed a healer. Then I brought my main over to Draenor when they first permitted server transfers, but never played her again til now.
One of the vendors near the emperor sells epic weapons for timeless coins, once you get to (I think) honored. My hunter bought a bow, but my Paladin is using her thunder king blacksmithing weapon which is much better than the vendor offers.
