I wanna have my Paladin decked out in full Noblegarden regalia including bunny ears, gathering basket for a shield and flowers for a sword.
That’s a personal judgement, since WoW is in itself a kind of “waste of time”.
I’ll tell you that it took nearly 2 months from start to finish of actively pursuing the Legendary cloak quest and achievement line to get the cloak.
There’s several stages of grinding raids (LFR works) to get a large number of quest-specific drops, like Sigils or Runestones, in different stages. There’s one stage where you have to grind 3,000 valor points, and your weekly maximum is 1,000, so that stage is guaranteed to be three weeks long if you exert maximum effort. There are some faction reputation requirements, like rep with Wrathion and rep with Emperor Shaohao on Timeless isle, to get through other stages. If you haven’t been building up that rep already (working other events, for instance), you’ll have to farm those too.
I think I had the best possible advantages, other than some unfortunate timing (like having to grind raid drops in the weeks that Gaze of the Black Prince wasn’t available, or entering A Test of Valor (accumulate 3,000 VP) the week AFTER Heart of the Valorous was over). And my main’s a hunter, and thus can solo some of the quest stage fights that many classes can’t; no time-consuming looking for groups needed.
And for all of that, it took nearly two months. We only have two months right now, and the Gaze of the Black Prince isn’t coming back any more after this week.
I really doubt you’d complete the quest before WoD goes live, and I don’t know whether you’d be able to complete it after WoD.
I’m not going to say that I don’t see the point, because I’m still grinding after some of the earlier legendaries on my main although I have to solo the outdated raids they’re based in (and can). I have a Thunderfury, which I got as a 90. I obviously think legendaries are worth pursuing after they’re no longer practically useful.
But I’m skeptical you’ll get the cloak before you begin to outlevel it. OTOH, I’m going to feel terribly sad when I put my Fen-Yu away in the bank because my latest quest green is better.
So you can’t transmog a dagger into a fish, even if you have a dagger that looks like a fishto use as a model?
So is there like a list of “acceptable” transmogs?
Given all the trouble my rogue had early in MoP, with all of those little swarming mobs (including a swarm-type mob that would put a debuff on you that prevented stealth or invisibility for a full minute, yeah. Yeah they do.
Ah, I think we just assumed that “Dark Herring” was an actual fish, not a dagger named after a fish. Yeah, you can transmog to that.
The basic rules are:
-
You can only transmog armor to the same type of armor.
-
The item you are using must have stats on it, and be green-quality or better (so you can’t make your chest armor look like your shirt).
-
Weapons can only be trasmogged into the same type of weapon. There are exceptions: Swords, axes, and maces can be transmogged interchangeably, but not polearms. Bows, crossbows, and guns can be transmogged into each other.
When my sub rogue earned the one-hand sword version of Quel’Delar, I was annoyed to discover that I couldn’t use it to transmog one of her daggers. I did all that work to get that weapon, and it’s only useful if I’m a combat rogue?
No, sadly, you can’t. Look at the “quick facts” on the right side of the page linked. It says right there, “cannot transmogrify.”
Except this isn’t always true. The item I referred to (the leather chestpiece that makes it look like you aren’t wearing a shirt) is a green quality item, and it has stats. But you can’t mog it.
Also, you can’t mog legendaries, which annoys the heck out of me. Especially since my DK finally completed his set of Warglaives just this week. I want to use them, dammit!
Well shoot, I didn’t see that bit about that dagger.
And boooo! to the Warglaives not being an approved transmog, either… getting a set of those for my rogue was one of my long-held dreams.
Many years ago, my prot Warrior got Dragon’s Call as a drop - I always loved that model and the proc it produced. One of my favorite weapons ever. Any similar items in recent years?
Fixed Link:
I’m sort of passively pursuing the legendary cloak questline, with the general idea that they’ll probably let me finish it after WoD launches. If they don’t, oh well. I have over half the Sigils now.
Rep on Timeless Isle won’t be a problem, since I’ve been slogging my way through Revered and am now 5 bars away from Exalted. Mostly because I want the mount, but if it might help out with the cloak as well, all the better.
Yeah. Neat feature on Wowhead, often overlooked except by the most active transmog enthusiast: the “same model as” tab.
Lists all other WoW objects using the same 3d model as the object on the database page, albeit possibly with differing colors.
All of that said, this very sword appears to still be available, so why not actually go back and get it? If you use it for transmog, of course its proc won’t carry over, but at least your weapon will look like this very nice sword.
I ran through Molten Core earlier this evening for fun and loot, and got a couple pieces of the old Rogue set. I think I’ll start collecting those for transmogs. Most everything else wound up DE’d.
I couldn’t figure out how to get the big guy (Rags?) at the end to spawn, as well as one of the mobs on a raised area with a bed of coals. Something easy that I’m doing wrong? I’ve only ever been in there before with a large group, and that’s been years and years ago now so I really don’t remember how it was done.
Now Exalted with the Emperor Shaohao faction on Timeless Isle, so I bought the Heavenly Gold Cloud Serpent, making my third new one this week. When it rains, it pours, I guess. I’m not sure which faction I should start trying to cozy up to now.
Well, my priest found her third Bindings of the Windseeker today…
This was on yet another trash-farming run through MC, trying to get her T1 belt, the one and only piece that hasn’t dropped for her. And it didn’t drop again, so she went back to SW and just bought the damned thing on the AH.
I’m slowly leveling a warlock this time. Need to kick a dog or something to ding 78. Kinda hoping to hit 90 in time for the Horseman event, so I can have 6 shots a day at that stupid flying horse I’ve been chasing for years…
You just have to kill all of the preceding bosses. Once they’re dead, Majordomo Executus (up on that raised platform with the bed of coals) will spawn. Kill his adds, and he will “submit” and agree to summon Ragnaros for you. I suspect you missed a boss somewhere.
All of the bosses before Executus guard flaming seals on the floor, and each seal is extinguished when you kill its guardian. Apparently, you originally had to manually extinguish them, and given that they disabled that requirement to make the raid soloable, I’m guessing that you originally had to extinguish them simultaneously by positioning team members at each one - something you obviously can’t do when soloing. But like I said, I’m just guessing - I never raided MC with a group.
EDIT: Oh yeah, here’s Blizzard’s official guide to soloing MC: World of Warcraft
And one for Black Temple: World of Warcraft
Hey, I just found this bit of news:
Oh dear, guess I’ll have to go log in on all of the 3-character names I’ve been hoarding on a server I no longer frequent. So that I can hoard them another 10 years and nobody can ever use them. XD
Back in the day, you had to have a bottle of Aqual Quintessence. Fancy high-falutin’ magical water from the no-longer-existing lord of the Hydraxian Waterlords, Duke Hydraxis. A water elemental in what used to be the middle of the big empty bay in Azshara. The bay that has a big island covered with goblins now. (If I were Hydraxis, I’d probably move too.)
You do a big involved quest chain and get one bottle of quintessence. The quest chain was weekly, I believe, or whatever the recycle time of MC was. Or else the CD on using the quintessence was too long to be practical. So in truth, you’d need 7 people in your 40-person raid to have one in order to douse one rune after each boss. Not that they’d have to be done simultaneously (your “one player at each rune idea”), but more that you had a one-shot item, so each player with one would use his after clearing each boss.
After reaching Revered with the Waterlords, you could get a permanent reusable version of the Quintessence, so no more redoing the quest chain every week (or whatever). It still had a long cooldown, so you’d still need seven players, but at least you wouldn’t have to quest to get a new quintessence.
Raiding used to be something guilds spent the entire week between raids preparing for. Making potions, preparing raid-specific quest items, crafting resistances, etc.
Now it’s just “click a menu, wait 30-60 minutes, and be repeatedly disappointed by the stupidity and laziness of the average LFR’er”.
ETA: The amazing degree of effort and preparation required to completely do Molten Core back in the say is the reason there was a mildly popular WoW-related song called “MC Raider” by Myndflame, with the following short chorus:
Okay, yeah, Now I remember reading that somewhere. Either in the guide I linked or in that 3-part series on MC recently run on WoW Insider.
I was kind of annoyed when I got to Revered, and discovered that, after that point, you no longer earn rep from killing trash - only from bosses. Long, slow grind to Exalted, I guess.
I’ve been noodling around on the Legendary questline, and I’m now in the “earn 3000 valor” section. That’s gonna take awhile.
Also, it took me a little bit to figure out how to get past the “go await your fleet’s arrival” quest, which was extremely VAGUE.
So I got the Legendary gemstone thing, which has to go into a “sha touched weapon”… and where do I find one of those?
I think that after the next patch comes out, the 3,000-valor requirement is either going away or being severely truncated. I want to say “going away”…I’m pretty sure I read that the other day and I was excited because it meant I might actually be able to still get a cloak.
Ah, here we go: I was right. Scroll down to the bit about the cloak being removed in WoD.
As for the Sha-touched weapon: you get it from final bosses in the tier of raiding that includes Terrace of Endless Spring, Vaults of Mogu’shan and Heart of Fear. I think, actually, you can only get them from ToES and HoF, but I’m not 100% positive on that. I got mine from ToES.
