MoP-ing up after the Cataclysm: Updated WoW General Discussion 8/22/12

The Squire Pony is kinda useful non-engineers, since having access to a vendor or a mailbox in a raid (or, more likely, solo raid) is quite useful. My main toons are engineers, and have the full complement of engineered conveniences (repair bots, portable mailbox, etc.), and I still appreciate having the pony bridle when I don’t want to burn another repairbot to dispose of vendorable inventory clutter (for instance).

Yep, the Dragonhawk just “showed up” in my mount collection without notifying me. The last time I got a mount that way, for collecting 50 mounts, the Albino Drake was sent to me from Mel Francis in Dalaran via mailbox, so I was expecting that sort of thing again. That was in 2008 though, so… lol… so much about the game has changed since then.

I’ve been a sporadic player of WOW since opening weekend - played a few months, long enough to get a toon to level 40, got a mount, quit. Came back a year later, played a toon up to 60 and did some minor raiding, quit. Came back as BC was launching, played a toon up to 70, raided Kara, got a flying mount, quit. Came back as Lich King was launching, played a toon up to 80, raided Ulduar and ToC a bit, quit. That time I thought I was really done.

Five years later and I’m back again! Two months in, I’m kind of getting bored. Hopefully the expansion will cure me, and I’ll want to stick around awhile. The idea of being able to have an “instant 90” of my choosing is actually kind of tempting, though I haven’t pulled the trigger and bought WOD yet.

And now it’s official, patch 6.0.2 is coming next week!

Hooray for more bagspace.

The preview run of uber-heroic UBRS (see what I did there) as a 90s instance seems very cool. And the bagspace? It’ll be marvelous, but I’m not sure what I’ll do with all those unoccupied slots. My hoarder anxiety may be unstoppable.

I think I would have gone insane if I hadn’t been doing netherwing with my druid. Being able to pick up stuff while in flight form and not needing to re-summon a flying mount only saves a second or two, but when you’re flying around like crazy picking shit up and flogging peons–who never seem to notice that you’re a druid in raven form, by the way–those seconds add up. And up. And then you’ve got to fly over to Nagrand every day, then fly back, plus stop at all the battlepet masters…

I always disciplined my peons while mounted, but maybe that’s a new innovation.

(Work is da poop! No more!)

I gave up on ever getting the legendary cloak. I never could get past the solo instance with the Dark Prince on my frost mage. Oh well.

I’ve been soloing heroic Sethekk Halls lately, hoping for the Raven Lord mount. And three times in a row, Anzu has taunted me by dropping an epic gemstone - I see the purple and get hopeful, and NO, it’s not the damn mount. It’s a useless, soulbound gem. Epic vendor trash.

Another ToC mount is mine, however… #7 so far. Now I have all 5 of the 400g/5 Seal faction mounts, plus the Stormwind Steed and the Queldorei Steed.

Patch day!

How big is it? I probably should have started the download when I left for work and let it finish over the course of the day…

Took my computer about 5 hours start to finish. Admittedly, my computer is far from new and my DSL is not epic. You might finish sooner, but do budget patch time in hours and not minutes.

I figured. New character models for most of the races means a seriously data-intensive patch…

Mine seems to have already downloaded and installed the patch, in the background. (Is that possible?) This marks the first update of any sort since I came back to WOW 2 months ago. I’m not sure how it works anymore.

The update should have been over about 15 minutes ago, but it looks like they’re extending it. Again.

I started a new thread for WoW discussion centered around Warlords of Draenor.

Just for the lulz:

Happy Patch Day by Greyfoo

Too True!

“Gravity beats Freddie in a duel”

And after being away from my computer all weekend, I logged in for a quick run at the Headless Horseman (no mount) and Sethekk. Pay dirt! Anzu dropped Reins of the Raven Lord.

Mount #107

Gratz! I haven’t managed that one yet (been a while since I’ve tried).

On further inspection, I discovered that I don’t actually have all of the Argent Tournament mounts. I’m missing at least the Exodar Elekk.
