People keep pointing out that the Aunt changed the plans so no biggie if the OP ditches her, but keep in mind that Auntie is coming from half way around the freaking world. Maybe a flight got changed or something else completely out of her control.
I would at least commit to spending time together on Saturday and offer for them to accompany you to the convention. I comletely agree with billfish678 andI find it annoying when people assume things without asking. If I’m traveling I’m always open to things outside my normal range of interests, especially if it’s an interest of someone who is gracious enough to host me.
Good point. Personally, I’d at least offer to let her come along to the sci-fi convention because I’d feel really guilty if I didn’t spend as much time as I could have with her and then she died soon after.
Even if I don’t enjoy something, I usually love going with my friends to something they enjoy because it’s fun seeing someone obviously indulging in one of their passions. I wouldn’t be so sure your aunt wouldn’t want to go. Why not ask her offhand as if her saying no is no big deal.
