More bizarre MS behaviour: Jumping windows

I have MS Windows 10 on my work computer. Recently it has found a new way to annoy me. I open a drive on my desktop, and go down to the file I want. (There are thousands of files.) I do stuff. For example: I’ll run some data through a program that results in three output files. I combine two of the output files into the third. (There’s a reason they’re written separately, but that’s not important here.) So I’ll copy the contents of one file and paste it into the third. When I look look behind the open file, or when I go to get the second file, the drive window has gone to the top. I’m no longer down at the numbers where I want to be. Of course, all I have to do is tap a cursor key since I’m ‘actually’ down there; but that’s yet another keystroke. (And if I’m not careful, I’ll have to scroll all the way down again.)

Is there any way to make the window stay put?
ETA: Oh – This started happening with the last mandatory upgrade.

.

I can’t test it, but see if the instructions in this article are helpful: https://www.askvg.com/fix-file-explorer-automatically-scrolls-jumps-to-top-of-folder-in-windows-10/

If this works, then I’ll note you can still get a desktop background that changes, by using third party apps, like the ones described on this page.

OK, I picked a colour. (I hated that it kept changing. I like blue.) I’ll see if that works!

Thanks.

Didn’t work. :frowning:
