More cat worries

Seems petty in light of the problems that PEOPLE here on the board have, and Whammo’s major crisis with his cat, but I have a few kitty worries of my own. Most of them are not much, but my neutered male 1 1/2 year old, Punkin, has a lump on his belly. It’s smallish, about an inch long, and less than that wide. It seems kind of irregularly shaped. It seems really firm, too, but when you mash on it, or move it around, he doesn’t act like it hurts him or anything. I’m going to take him to the vet Monday, just as a precaution. I love my critters and he has the best personality of all my cats. Anyone have any ideas what this might be? (Michi?) Anyway, if you can spare a prayer, with all the people and other critters that need them, I would appreciate one for the Lump (which coincidentally happens to be the cat’s nickname.)

Oh my, poor kitty! ::scratches behind Lump’s ears:: Hope the vet has only good news, TroubleAgain.

Oooh, that sucks…

Of course, it could turn out to be nothing to worry about; I know someone with a dog that has had lumps for years without any real problems…good luck.

You got it, prayers, positive thoughts and a hug.

I’ll be thinking of you tommorow.

Scotti

Well, it could just be a sebaceous cyst, which is a fancy name for “a hardish lump of cheesy stuff.” Totally harmless, gross to think about, grosser still if it pops.

I have cat woes too. My new cat is very aggressive towards our dog. The dog is completely submissive (turns away, tries to hide, avoids making any eye contact with cat) but the cat charges him and attacks. Repeatedly. We’re probably sprayed a gallon of water on the cat as a deterrent. It slows him but will not stop him. I’ve never seen anything like it, as our basset is 60 lbs and no small beast. Sigh. We have no peace in our household. Either we lock the cat away, or the dog hides in terror in my office. Here’s hoping it DOES get better over the next week…

Cranky, sorry about your cat woes, too. I hope the new guy learns there’s nothing to fear from your dog and no reason to intimidate him. Had a similar problem when we introduced our dog to an established cat. Cat got aggressive (he’s never backed down from a dog in his life.) Time took care of it, but the dog still doesn’t trust the cat entirely.

Trouble,

I couldn’t even begin to guess, but I’m hoping the fact that it doesn’t hurt him is a good sign. Be sure and tell us what the prognosis is.

I’m also really worried about your eldest cat (who you mentioned in your e-mail but not here). I really hope you can find some way to keep him out of trouble. Are you going to take him to see your vet, too?

Cranky, I hope your cat and dog learn to co-exist, too.
(I also want to let Whammo know, if he’s reading this, that I feel for him, too. I keep getting on the board “too late” to post to his thread.)

I hope it’s nothing serious. Keep us informed on the health of your cat. I hope that it is nothing to worry about, but it’s best to make sure.
