If this really is that big of a problem, Diane, then I think it would be appropriate for you to personally and publically confront the people you believe are guilty. Call them on it. Show specific examples where they have been out of line in their behavior. Demand that they account for themselves. Urge them to change their behavior.
Otherwise, the argument you make is compromised, and it’s much more difficult to sway those of us sitting on the fence.
Now that I think about it, you must be talking about those love sick guys I keep around as my knights in shining armor.

The reason I don’t want to post the names of the people who I am accusing of this behavior, is that I don’t have the time nor the desire to become involved in a flame-fest with those I list. I have absolutely no problem with confronting someone, hell, just look at a few of my past flames, but you know and I know that if I were post a list of names I would have to respond to each one of their responses as well as those who agree or disagree. I just don’t have the time nor the desire and I won’t make a direct accusation that I am not willing to put the time and effort into continuing.
I still think that there are - some - a few - whatever - people on this board who go well beyond the typical troll-bullshit clean-up. I’m not referring to the dipshits who come here spouting their racist garbage or the jackasses who ask questions about parkways and driveways and especially those who come here for no other reason but to disrupt.
I am talking about the gang mentality that occurs the second someone happens to disagree with one of them. The waiting around like a pack of hyenas waiting for a newbie to make one little mistake just so they can shred it apart. How they jump on the newbies ass with nothing to go on but assumptions (take a look at Mrunners thread in the PIT). Of course, as soon as one of them makes a “kill” the other few are there to pat each others backs and laugh about how they made the newbie look like a fool.
Like most others here, I will jump the shit of anyone who comes onto this board with ACTUAL trollish behavior. I will chastise the hell out of anyone who creates sock puppets (MarkSerlin for one). I will spank the shit out of anyone who spouts racist remarks. I think assholes are assholes, and I have no problem in saying so to their message board “face”.
My entire point to both this thread and Mrunners was this:
There are new people joining the SDMB every day, there are many more who lurk. I have personally received e-mails from some of these people regarding something I may have posted. Most messages are well written and appear intelligent. I always suggest that they post their words to the SDMB because I think they have something to offer. Almost without fail, their response to me is that they are not ready to be attacked by the few wolves that lay in wait.
No insult is intended to any of you, but seeing the same posters over and over is becoming stagnant. The irony to this is that some of these same posters are the ones who are keeping the others from making an appearance. They are stunting the growth of the board.
I for one would like to see a wider variety of people, and yes, it pisses me off that there are a few who keep that from happening.
As far as the “few/couple/clique” comment, I will admit that I haven’t sat down and counted each and every person who does this, although there are a few.

Not too long ago, someone started a thread about how you are a poor debater. I can’t recall who it was, but I thought they made one or two seemingly valid points. Rather than respond to that person’s flame, you had your little lackeys do it for you. And I wouldn’t call what they did debating so much as attacking anyone who disagreed with you.
Gee, sounds like the cliques you have been describing doesn’t it? Regulars who attack anyone who disagrees with the leader of their clique? Hm, again, the irony is mind-boggling.
If I sounds sarcastic, it is because that is what I intend. The only clique I ever observed existing on the SDMB was one revolving around you Diane. So I find it painfully funny that you yourself are the one casting accusations of cliques and reprimands for said cliques. You tell me you want me to back up my accusations, yet you are the one who refuses to do so. I just cannot get over your high and mighty, hypocritical attitude.
