More content theft.

Another one.

They stole the MMP? I find that strangely funny.

Reported.

Thanks.

I though that’s the way internet worked. One orginal source, then copied into 1000 or more websites so when you search on a subject you get 1000 hits to the same information, uncredited. It must be the intended model, it works very well.

Looks like they stole the whole damned board…or at least a substantial chunk of it. Dozens of our threads are reposted there.

blogspot.com is owned by Google.

I’m sure Cecil is on first name terms with Larry, Eric and Sergey. Shouldn’t take more than a five-minute phone call from the Ol’ Wise One to any of the three and that site would be toast.

Why would one steal content in that way? I don’t get it.

The purpose of the linked site is to try to make money from ads (and/or possibly some sort of SEO/Link farming) - and for this to be effective, it needs page content - stealing someone else’s content is easier than creating your own.

It boggles my mind that someone would go to a crappy looking webpage and decide to click on ad links. I guess it is true what they say: one’s estimation of fellow humans diminishes a little every day.

They just sent me a list of demands and what appears to be the Barnhouse’s thumb.

That’s what all those “table saw” discussions lead to.

Did they say “Need answer fast”?

Pfft. Idiots. Maim a forum we care about and then they’ll get our attention.

If they manage to get their stolen content indexed by search engines, then visitors may arrive there when searching for anything that would normally bring them here.

Few of them might actually click on the ad banners, but the sheer number of views served is also part of the calculation used to determine ad revenue (that is, an ad that gets many thousand page views, plus one or two clicks, may still be profitable)

But they can’t be doing anything wrong, they gave a citation for each article listing back to the Straight Dope. They’re just an aggregator, not thiefs. Right? blink blink

Aggregating info from one source has lots of issues…

I’m looking at this blog’s entries. There are so many! Are they stealing every single thread or something?

(They don’t seem to have stolen this thread yet. Now that’d be meta.)

Especially if they started posting on it pretending we stole their site.

The theft is still going on.

There is no theft. Digital material posted on the Internet is public and permanent. Unless it’s copyrighted, it’s anyone’s and everyone’s to do with what they wish.
