Right. Demi-humans are very other-worldly creatures to the Viking mindset - elves and dwarves alike live on another of the Nine Worlds and venture seldom into the world of Men. You may, of course, find that travel broadens the mind.
Email me a short profile of yourself as the skald of Bjarni’s Settlement and I’ll send you the stats and spells and stuff in due course.
They’re examples only. Thor is associated with courage, thunder, and making life unpleasant for giants. Odin is the chief As and the wisest; Tyr the great swordsman who sacrificed his right hand to bind the Fenris-wolf. Do feel free to look up any other Norse gods you like. In general, there are likelyto be special spells and granted powers associated with each. I’ll put my hand up to making this up as I go along, though, so rather than make up a dozen different religions only one of which will be used, choose one and I’ll come up with something suitable.
glee ?
appleciders cleric
Oredigger77 beserker
Little Plastic Ninja skald
Mera Naam Joker (Roosh) ?
Orual (?)
I know I said I’d wait to choose a character, but I’m too excited!
Also I’ve met appleciders from one game and Little Plastic Ninja from another, so two key roles are in safe hands.
Having already got a peaceful Wose healer, clearly this time I need to be a Beserker.
I’ll bung you a character sketch by e-mail and await the result…
I notice that Odin’s traditional weapon is the spear, and that in some legends it’s much closer to a javelin. How many javelins would I reasonably be able to carry?
But it’s Odin for me for certain, and I’ll try to write up a character background and send it to you tonight.
We do need someone to play Bjarni, of course… Orual has declared himself out for the present.
appleciders, you can carry four javelins. You may prefer to keep the last of these for hand-to-hand combat as a light spear. The javelin has a modest damage rating, but in my campaign it has superior armour-piercing potential.
No need to worry about your weapon choice. I will be using a very simplified version of the weapon-vs-armour system, and a two-handed axe is an extremely good anti-armour weapon. (A two-handed spear can seriously mess up a charging giant’s day, on the other hand.)
Bjarni is a fighter. If necessary I can run him as an NPC but I’d like someone to play him if possible - and we could do with two or three more players. Up to now we have five: two berserkers, a skald, a wizard and a rune-priest.
I’ll be happy to play Bjarni if needed (yes, I know I’ve changed my mind three times. We Vikings are very impulsive. )
It’s just a thought, but in my game I find that having an NPC accompany the party allows me to move the game on a bit (e.g. by asking the players to make a choice or by giving them extra information…)
Well, whichever - the PCs can be Bjarni’s trusted companions and advisers, if everyone’s already happy with their existing choices (which are looking fine to me, and I wasn’t suggesting anyone change so much as hinting that any interested parties reading this thread consider signing up).
Maybe I need to give up sleep to play this game all the posting seems to be while I’m asleep I mean jeez 1 am, 4 am on a week night. Then again I could just be old before my time. Either way I’m looking forward to this.
