My real name: fifty-odd hits, because I share the same name of a professor in Ireland who writes scholarly treatises.
My username: too many to count. Bunch of hotels and travel sites, mostly, also Greek mythology pages.
My real name: fifty-odd hits, because I share the same name of a professor in Ireland who writes scholarly treatises.
My username: too many to count. Bunch of hotels and travel sites, mostly, also Greek mythology pages.
My name brought up about 300 hits, none of which were about me that I saw.
My user name, on the other hand, brought up around 1,300 hits and all were about me that I could tell.
Heck, I know where this is going…but I’ll bite.
Username in quotes: A zillion hits. Literally. But it’s a common handle and there’s even some guys with the actual name.
My real name in quotes: I have an usual name. Yet the web is dominated by a guy with my exact name who’s a jazz trumpet player. I’ll have to go see him someday. Links about me pop up regarding the pubs I’ve worked for over the years.
Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah
My name is way more common than I ever realized. Still, it is good to know that there are no obvious really obnoxious persons with my name out there. (Having just listened to an interviewer saying that she googles people before she interviews them). On the other hand, I don’t read German or whatever language was most common on sites with my name, so maybe there is and I don’t know it.
My results are as follows:
Eureka:6,460,000–I’ll just assume none are me. A recent related thread had me investigating more closely and there are a lot of companies and places with Eureka in their title. Besides, I only post here and not that often.
First name:7,140,000
Last name: 1,160,000–Whoa, I didn’t think it was that common, though at least one of the sites on the first page belonged to someone I’d heard of with my last name.
First name last name:24,100- Umm, that’s still too many to sort through.
“First name last name”:163- many in German( I think, I know that is my heritage, and I sure can’t read the sites). One of them is a website I designed a year ago for a class. I’d never been sure that one could find it without direct help from me. (Now whether anyone would is a different matter.)
Eight hits for my real name, all relating to me.
Four for this screen name, none relating to me, all spelling mistakes unintentional.
Ninety-one hits for my other screen name, which I use everywhere but the SDMB, all relating to me.
Hm… should I change my name here, to the other screen name that I use everywhere else? For consistency and all? Plus I have the feeling the spelling mistake, though intentional, bugs people.
As far as Google hits go, I get over 1,000 for my real name (mostly from my country of origin), but only a precious 72 for my user name. However, both names are fairly rare, the first recorded instance of my real name preceding that of my user name by several (and then more…) centuries.
I would gladly substitute my user name for my real one, but name changes are too much of a bother…
real name - zero
username - 1 hit from an old website that no longer exists
I am soooooooo boring
My real name: 1690 hits on 71 pages, about 65 of which were the real me. I get mentioned in a lot of film festival listings and movie fan pages.
My Doper name: 26,100 hits, with the real me at #7. Most of the rest are Star Trek and Star Wars fan pages, with several others for a record store with the same name.
I haven’t participated here, but I will admit that if you do a Google image search of MY username, you’ll not only get a picture of me, but also of a couple of other Dopers. People who’s names I recognize, but I have no real connection to. It’s kinda weird.
username (as shown, no quotes): 213,000. I am not checking them all as I am pretty sure none are me.
Short first name/last name in quotes: 3 hits, none are me.
Full first, middle and last name in quotes: Only one hit and it’s me on a geneology website for one of my Scots/Irish ancestors. My branch uses the Irish spelling of that particular surname.
Let’s see.
My real name, Julie Carter, in quotes nets 6770 hits, and I’m kinda proud that the second one listed is actually me. As is the third. Considering how common my name is, I’m dead famous.
My first name alone: 25,600,000 hits.
My last name alone: 18,100,000 hits.
“jsgoddess” brings in 6440 hits, all of which are probably me.
“first name last name” = 532, about 5% are me
'whistlepig" = 932
I need to contact someone who posted a handout from a presentation I did. It’s not copywrited and they did give me credit but I’d like it off the Net since it’s outdated. And I might use the title again sometime.
OTOH, there are two videos of me on the web. So if you want to see and hear me explain certain portions of federal regulations . . .
Whistlepig
Or maybe you’re just careful.
I have never posted my full name online publicly in a string before, as in, you could never Google me using “Firstname Lastname.” I’m so self-absorbed that I think everyone’s trying to Google my name.
Great…now I am worried that I don’t really exist. Neither my real name nor my user name turned up with anything.
My first and last names separately get tons of hits but my first name is Melody and my last name is that of a famous movie producer to whom I am unfortunately not related.
My real name brought up 18 hits with 2 about me.
My user name brought up 1770, most about “The Great Smartini” who appears to be a magician. When I have more time I want to go back and read about doing the hen trick and maybe even the short “O” trick … although the last one does set my mind to wandering.
:dubious:
Sternvogel gets “about 520” hits, the first 27 of which (plus others) are writings either by, or in reference to, me.
Real first name last name (no quotes) yields about 101,000 hits. I don’t appear among the first 30. “First name Last name” (in quotes) yields 1360 hits, with the first three pages again featuring my namesakes, but not me.
“Nickname Last name” (with quotes) returns about 1070 hits, a handful of which are actually me. If I ever get to the Buffalo area, I’ve got to check out this guitarist/bassist who shares my real-life moniker…
Real name - 2 hits. One in a foreign language that has nothing to do with me, or is even a proper name. The other is me being quoted by our college student paper four years ago.
User Name - 11,200. Lots in different languages. And there was a band. And some other people who weren’t me. Very entertaining.
There’s a crapload of hits for my real name, including a musician and an author, and a .com.
For my screen name, there’s shy of 6,000 hits, with the vast bulk of them either referring to IP spoofing, or me.
Well, my real name generated 188 hits, mostly me and relatives.
My User name generated 47,900 hits!
I really shouldn’t be surprised…after all, Silenus* was* a god.
