Because I am kind of pitching-a-bitch, I thought this might be more appropriate here than ATMB.
I see that posters now have the length of their membership (heh-heh) and how many postings they have graced us with there on their every post.
Why is this info needed? Who is it important to? Do Newbies (or geeks who spend way too much time here - and, yes, I fall into both categories) need to wear that fact for all to see like a scarlet letter?
This will probably increase cliquishness here. When will we have a united message board, with postings judged only on the character of their content?
Then, what the hell do I know? I’ve only been a member since January.

Frankly, I kinda think it’s neat. And I have always judged posters by the content of their posts, and not by how often I’ve seen their name pop up. For example, Milo, I think you’re pretty cool, because while I haven’t seen your name around all that much, everything I’ve seen from it has been worthwhile. I’d imagine most people here are the same way.

Well, I hate it for two reasons. For one, there are too damn many words in the left-hand column now, making it tough to spot someone’s name when you’re scrolling down.
Also, I used to post under a different name; so I’ve now lost five months’ and about 1000 post’s “credit!”
I say send it the way of the flaming file folders!
Personally, I wish it would just show if someone was banned or not. Since posters can now be banned without being unregistered, you can’t tell if someone is really here or not. I’d find it very useful (and satisfying) if “Banned” appeared under banned users’ names instead of “Member.”

While I realy don’t see that it’s much of a big deal to show the number of posts/date of registration under the name(I’m still naive and innocent, not believing in these doper cliques), I’m just curious as to why?
I mean, the information is in the users profile, so if anyone really wanted to know, they could just check. There doesn’t seem to be much point to putting it right there under the name.
And I agree with you, Gr8Kat, it would be nice if they could indicate whether or not someone was banned.
I’ll jump on the “I kinda like this” bandwagon. This is probably due to being an accountant and having a fascination with numbers, but I think it is an easy way to see how new a person is I haven’t run across yet.
Have you nominated and/or voted for your favorite huggable Mullinator today?
I think this is one of the main purposes: anti-sock puppet measure. You can see at a glance how long someone’s actually been a member, and how many posts they’ve made during their tenure. If they registered in January, have 12 posts, and have just finished flaming David B, chances are they’re a troll in a tube sock dress.
It also stops the “This is my Nth thread” posts-right before I hit my 500th. Thanks, guys. Suck all the fun out of it.
We interrupt this thread to increase
dramatic tension.
The date I could do without, the number of posts is kind of nice…a measure of how much of a life you have, or simply because we as humans like milestones, and it lets us keep track of such easier.
