More innocent victims of the stupid fucking drug war...

Uhmmm, threatening to strangulate the legitimate border crossings unless Canada shuts down the BC marijuana growers sure seems like an attempt to force us into compliance.

YMMV.

What would be the danger that you refer to? Can I assume you mean drugs? Drug consumption in most drug producing countries is minimal compared to the U.S. and isn’t really seen as much of a threat to their society.

Now what they aren’t stupid enough to turn down is all the money entering their local economies courtesy of the assinine drug policies in the US. They see it as consumption driving demand and that the problem lies with the consumers.

Yue Han, why do you call me an idiot? Please go back and read the thread again. I never compared the DEA to Nazis. Someone else did that. I don’t agree with them. I just argued against your arguments against that person.

SPOOFE, of course the DEA itself is not going to send an army down to wherever. As we see in the Peru airplane crash, it’s usually the CIA’s job to muck around down there… So, no, no one is quaking in their boots because of the DEA itself, but rather because of the US govt as a whole. THe US is such a dominant force in the western hemisphere, giving loans and other such aid, supporting a government here, supporting a coup effort there, that countries generally try and please them. The fact that the US cares about a range of things, not just drugs, is besides the point. The US cares about drugs, the countries know this, and care about what the US thinks of them. This is control. This is the way the world works.

And SPOOFE, what is it with you and aliens? Why are you continually bringing up these strange straw-men? Come down to earth, buddy. We’re talking politics here, not conspiracy theories.

No, you did not compare the DEA with Nazis. You did however compare the arrest of drug abuser with the Holocaust and the capture of Noriega with the annexation of Poland.

Similarly, I did not call you an idiot. I called you numbnuts, jackass, and stupid.

Yue, did you really go back and read the posts? I did not start the whole Nazi comparison thing. I even agreed with you that it was out of line. Here’s what happened: Daemon compared the DEA to Nazi’s. You said the DEA is not like Nazi’s, since among other things, they don’t target people based on things people can’t control about themselves. You also said they take over any countries, or force other countries into compliance. I thought you were a bit too easy on the DEA, so I disagreed with some of your assertions.

So, no, the arrest of drug abusers is not in the same ballpark as the Holocaust. But I think jailing people that are suffering from an addiction is an immoral thing to do. And invading Panama is not as bad as annexing Poland. But it was clearly the wrong thing to do (don’t take my word for it, it was also against international law).

Finally, you said you did not call me an idiot. Your post before that started with “Avumede, you idiot”. Not that that’s particularly important, but I think it’s an example of your lack of reading skills.

I’d like to know where these idiot parents get off taking small children on a dnagerous trip to Peru in the first place. If they want to cram their religion down the throats of unwilling villagers, that’s their business. But leave the kids at home, fer goodness sake!

a) I didn’t catch the idiot thing because it was a little title thing I added at the last moment. Next person who implies that missing a small detail proves their opponent is incompetent gets a printer rammed up their ass, unless they’d like that, in which case I’ll figure out something else.

b)My point was, the things the DEA does are not comprable to what the Nazis did. You said I was wrong about two of those things, ie They do do those Nazi-like behaviors. That was not true.

If you think the DEA does bad, awful terrible things, super for you. I don’t give a fuck. But don’t say I’m wrong when what I said is that what they do isn’t in the same fucking ballpark as the Nazis.

See, the things I asserted werein fact true. You said the weren’t, and then brought evidence that didn’t disprove my points. What you showed might be evidence that the DEA is a little too powerful, a little out of control. That’s great. Stick it to the Man. I’m in this about Nazis.

Yue -

I must not have made my reply clear. Actually, looking at it again, I definately could have made it clear what exactly I meant by replying. I did not mean you were wrong when you said these things were not in the same ballpark as the Nazi’s, I meant you were wrong in implying that the DEA is wholly innocent of these types of things, which I think is not true.

Anyway, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Uh, John, if you read carefully, it doesn’t seem that avumede was trying to compare the DEA to the Nazis. He was pointing out that the objections you raised to the comparison were not as far from the DEA as you had believed. While I don’t agree with his points, they did not strike me as an actual attempt to equate the DEA with the Nazis. Since it’s fairly obvious now that he does not consider the DEA to be at all similar to the Nazis, I think it’s rather useless to argue about the semantics of his first post.

Yeah, the main point here is obviously through. And while I would like to pad my post count with semantic quibbling, I’ll find someone else to bitch at.

Did you know morons are apparently collecting 6 million paperclips to commemorate the six million Jews killed in the Holocaust? That’s pretty fucking worthless.

Goodbye.
