More Movie Naming Madness

What would be the name of a movie where playing a version of chicken, where two teens drive their cars towards the edge of a cliff to see who stops last, is a large part of the story? The race is always started with a girl who’s the girlfriend of one of the drivers standing between them and lowering a scarf or handkerchief.

The movie was set in the 50s or 60s (probably the 60s) but was probably an 80s film.

Sounds like Footloose.

Grease? Rebel Without a Cause? Or is that too easy? The ‘girlfriend dropping a hankie while the boys race’ is a pretty common movie trope.

Rebel Without a Cause is the best and most famous example of the Chicken Run.

Probably this, going by the Wikipedia description.

I believe the '80’s movie your looking for is “The Heavenly Kid”.

Hmm… Actually I think that this is indeed the correct answer.

Odd that there’s so many movies in which this is a large part of the story!

The scene was also used in “The Lost Boys.”

It was also parodied at the end of the John Water’s film “Cry Baby” although the two cars were heading towards each other rather than off a cliff.

And just let me note that being a 6 year old, The Heavenly Kid sure didn’t seem like a comedy!

Good morality lesson though. I’d recommend it for all little tykes.
