I like it; it amuses me.
Hmph. I need 8,114 more posts before I can be on it. Better get busy.
Me, too. I only have to outlive/bump off 15 people to be the lowest numbered active poster! That would be better than Maybelle and her Social Security # 000-00-0002. The rest of you can sprint for post count, I’m running a marathon…
Until you pony up and pay to be a member.

Forgive my curiosity, but how did you become interested in this sort of statistic?
But too high a member # to be able to get into the Club for a good while yet.
Nope. There’s lots of Guests in the list. Basically I looked at the numbers for many people who posted to threads I read during a two or three day period. Not everyone, but anyone whose username I’d seen around for a long time, plus some who had real early Join Dates.
It was something that came up in another thread. It struck my fancy
I’ve never seen where that is mentioned…point the way please?
You must be yanking my chain. :dubious:
Is there a “register” link near the top of the page?
It may have been removed for April first. :dubious:
He may never make it, even at his fast rate of over 30 posts a day. His member # is 146,777. He’s at 34,893 posts now, 3 years after joining. Even if he could keep up that pace it would take him some 12 more years.
But who knows, he might be a tough old bugger and make it yet.

Well, you missed me, for one. Member # 35658, post count quite a bit above that.
It doesn’t look like this was ever intended to be a definitive list, just a collection of names he ran across in the past few days.
So you’re saying I need to make 6 times the amount of stupid posts as I do now?
ah there it is thanks
what does this money do to those that collect it?
At the current rate I’m going I’ll make the list in 2286.
Nice to have goals.
WBY - As a member, I don’t have ads on the site. I believe I also have the capacity for more private messages, but that’s not an issue for me. Part of it is I feel like I get enough enjoyment from the site to help defray the cost of hamster feed.

This wonderful thing we call the internet has proven very hard to monetize for businesses wishing to use it for a number of methods. Sure if you are selling a product it’s pretty easy to make back the cost of use, but what if that product is ideas and conversation?
Most folks, used to the advertising method of cost deferral, don’t wish to pay directly for information services. Thus the downfall of newspapers. Many have a hard time justifying spending any money when with a few clicks they are likely to find a free alternative source of what they are looking for.
Therefore in order to support the things I appreciate on the internet I take advantage of paying extra for some services. I give The Dope some money, three online newspapers, a webcomic and an internet weekly television show that I enjoy.
Until more realistic methods of compensating creators are realized this will have to do. I appreciate the content and someone has to help pay for it. The $50 a month I spend on all of these products is well worth the cost.
