More proof that testosterone is a dangerous thing

Kid does pull-ups of a very high crane

I’m not afraid of heights but I am afraid of snuff films, and watching that kid made me quesy. (No, the kid does not die - but you can’t help think that he might!)

This is a prime example of one of those people who might possibly have parts of their brain missing that deal with fear (or not being a total complete utter madman)
I wonder if this is a result of powerthirst*

Eek, scary. I can’t at all imagine wanting to do anything like that. I wonder if he had a parachute.

Yeah. It was in the car.

My heart was beating fast just watching that.

See, my first thought, before seeing the video, was “Eh, that’s not so dangerous. It’s not that hard to support your own weight even if you can’t do many more pull-ups.” Then I saw A) that he was using his whole body from the very beginning, which is very worrisome, B) that the bar he was using was (or at least looked to be) quite smooth, and too large for him to completely grasp, and C) that he had no harness. If you really have to do something like that (and I’d argue that nobody does), you have proper equipment (including gloves and said harness), you pick a solid bar thin enough to get a very good grip (and I’m pretty sure that steel is more than strong enough to hold a human body at a reasonable thickness), and you try it when you’ve proven that you can easily do around 20, then hang for at least a minute.

I could do 25 pullups, or around 150 seconds on the flexed arm-hang, freshman year of high school, and there’s no way I would do this, even with the conditions I stipulated, short of a very large cash reward.

To quote The Abyss:

“I give the whole thing a sphincter factor of about 9.5.”
