Another story has surfaced regarding misconduct within the Secret Service.
Nashville’s police chief claim SS agents tried to have local police aid them in illegally entering a person’s home.
The Secret Service scandal has fallen out of the news cycle, but I feel this is one of the most pressing issues in the nation today. Having such a disfunctional agency in charge of such important duties is asking for trouble.
For reals? Remember the intruder who made it deep in the White House? Or the armed man who got on an elevator with the President? The laundry list of other breeches of security?
Plus, the story in the link is egregious. Blatant violation of law and a botched investigation concerning the president’s safety.
Yes those were pretty bad. It’s a good thing that the potential for something bad happening never turned into something actually happening. Of course nothing compared to what has happened with other presidents when there were actual direct actions taken against them.
I’d say it’s important for the same reason similar stories about cops are important. This isn’t even a heat of the moment thing, like a lot of these other stories. This is the Secret Service trying to do an end run around the constitution.
Plus it’s a testament to the cops that they didn’t go along with it, despite the pressure from the official security of the President. It’s nice to hear stories about good cops. Law enforcement lying to get you to comply with their requests is actually one of the main reasons I distrust them so much.
Hey, I give the Secret Service credit on this one. They tried to handle the situation by just faking a warrant. A lot of law enforcement agencies would have just decided the guy had a gun and shot him.
Agreed. I wasn’t alive then, but everything I’ve seen shows the Kennedy assassination was very detrimental to the nation. We don’t need to go through that again.
The stories I’m generally most worried about, and which most need to be kept in the public’s eye, are ones where the people responsible for fixing it might decide it’s easier or more profitable to ignore the problem rather than address it. I don’t think that’s a problem with the SS breaches. As much as I think it would be a bad thing for the president to be killed, I’m pretty sure the president is even more against it. The nature of this particular scandal pretty much guarantees that the person with the most ability to fix it is going to be the person with the most invested in making sure it gets fixed. So, it’s not something that I’m terribly concerned about.
