More very hate-able commercials

Not a fan of the new trimmer ad showing three women in bikinis standing in front of a swimming pool, trimming tiny, strategically-located…er…bushes.

I think they’re trying too hard.

Not even original.
Mow The Lawn.

Oh, my. Heh.

What’s really bad about it, is it seems to me the product they are selling is a buyer’s reward program. In other words, a form of discount card.

Oh joy, there’s a new Snyder’s commercial. Something about smashing up the pretzels???

I hadn’t picked up on that! (Is this a bad time to point out that a traditional university’s library would likely have better hours than wherever she is, and also accommodations for distance learners? )

Toyota Prius, the Choice of Bank Robbers?. Not just one commercial either, it seems to be a whole series. I know Toyotas are considered boring vehicles, but why in the world does Toyota want to associate their vehicles with bank robbers and outlaws being hunted by police? And in what universe is a Prius a good getaway vehicle?

I think it was intended as such, and I must congratulate the ad people for making the dumbest car commercial ever.

Yes, and the robbers are portrayed as the heroes. Really fucking stupid.

While I do think the ad is stupid, and certainly not worthy of being an ongoing series of commercials, I understand why they made the ad (sort of). The Prius has a reputation for being an utterly boring driving experience that appeals only to people who only care about getting from Point A to Point B cheaply, or who are tree huggers trying to use less gas. I guess they are trying to shake up that reputation by showing it being used by reckless drivers who do care about manuevering and speeding.

The real problem with the ad campaign is that anyone who decides to take a test drive based on these commercials is going to quickly discover why it only appeals to the former groups.

I don’t know what it is about this specific commercial, but it really rubs me the wrong way and every time it comes on I have to switch the channel. I think it’s the dumb oompah band music, but I haven’t been able to sit through it long enough to determine exactly why I hate it.

I don’t hate it (I rather like the music), but I have no idea how that commercial is supposed to convince me to buy that phone.
If I buy their phone, will Jason Statham pop up everywhere? Will I turn into Jason Statham? Will I start singing “Watch Me Now” over and over again? Does the phone let me do motorcycle stunts? Is this the phone for people who live like action movie stars and if so, why? I don’t get it.

That’s true. Diploma mills give you a worthless diploma for your money. U of P milks you for as long as they can before you eventually get a diploma - if ever.
A great insult would be “so stupid he got rejected by the University of Phoenix.”

My company - and every company I’ve ever worked for - would laugh a U of P grad right out the door.

My Prius accelerates just fine. My Prius has no trouble doing 80 or 85 on I5. However there are plenty of people who do assume that anyone driving a Prius is a little old lady in driving habits. So I see the reason behind the ads.

Then, I sure as fuck dont want to work for any company that makes decisions like that. My companies would all consider such a applicant, based upon their merits. Experience being far more important than where they got their degree from.

The song is by Jamaican dancehall star Busy Signal.

Notice the bald cat at :52?

It also sounds like it’s sampling Loituma’s Ievan Polkka, which gained minor fame due to the ‘leekspin’ meme from years ago. So when I hear the ad come on, all I can think of is a cartoon character with a leek.

The song is called “Everybody Move” and it has a sample of the Hatsune Miku cover of Ievan Polka (originally by Loituma) I recognized the Loituma sample instantly. And I’ll throw in some “Leekspin” just for you, Jeep’s Phoenix.

The Entresta commercial where the old guy is singing “Tomorrow” to the baby. Creepy! He looks like the Grim Reaper

OK, I don’t usually post in “bad commercial” threads (and I haven’t looked very far back in this one so I don’t know if this ad has already been mentioned), but… there’s one now that, for me, goes beyond simply annoying to genuinely offensive.

It’s the Cure Auto Insurance ad in which a guy is sitting by his father’s deathbed. The father whispers, “Son, there’s something I have to tell you.” The guy looks up and there’s a hot nurse in the doorway. He ogles her for a few seconds and then you hear the father’s heart monitor flatline, and the guy looks down and says, “Dad?!?” This is followed by a graphic saying “Avoid distractions” and something relating this concept to Cure auto insurance.

So, to sum up:

  1. Bad topic to joke about
  2. Bad joke
  3. Little if any discernible relation of joke to product
