Pretty sure this belongs in GQ, as I want a factual answer, not a debate.
Question for Mormon Dopers who have been on their mission here in the states, spreading the word:
What percentage of people whose door you knock on convert?
What percentage take the literature?
What percentage treat you like dirt?
Just curious. Thanks.
I’m not sure there is a factual answer to this one, since the success rate varies widely depending on the area. Socioeconomic factors, predominant religion in the region, language, and a lot of other factors come into play.
That being said, knocking on doors is just about the least successful method of winning converts, and most missionaries avoid it unless all other options have been exhausted. The best results usually come from members who have had friends or neighbors ask about their religion and have expressed interest. Other leads come from people who have visited Temple Square in Salt Lake, or other LDS visitor centers and have requested information, or people who have called the 800 numbers shown on TV commercials to receive literature.
