I believe his thinking (such as it is) is that the American people will organize and force the politicians to impose rigid across the board tariffs (except on Canada and Europe) that will make it impossible for countries with cheap labor to compete for the sales of goods and services with local, American companies and locally manufactured goods and services. He also seems to want to make it impossible for US flagged companies to offshore or outsource, forcing them to bring those good low wage high volume jobs back to the good ole USA (though still presumably allowing foreign companies the magnificent benefit of being able to build manufacturing plants here and use good American labor).
That’s my take on his, um, plan and what he wishes to organize. He seems to think we are on the cusp of doing all these things, and he seems genuinely convinced that this will bring about the restoration of the US to what it was in the golden era of the 50’s (or whatever).
Why not make it a pocket-book issue. If people gave a shit about offshoring they wouldn’t be so happy to buy stuff made in China, and so scornful of products that say “Made in the USA.”
So while people may respond to a poll saying they want the government to take action, they themselves aren’t willing to pay $1500 for a $300 ipod. It’s what I call the theory of supply and demand, I hope some day to make it a law.
If so many people agreed with you, Apple would open in a factory in New Jersey and make “Made in the USA” ipods that they sell for $1500 along side the $300 “Made in China” ipods. Anti-offshore people would vote with their wallets, making Chinese ipods unprofitable for Apple.
You don’t need government intervention, unless the majority of Americans don’t actually care. The fastest way to push companies that offshore (ie Apple) is to not buy their products.

Hell, my whole insurance office uses TigerDirect / Systemax products - the computer parts aren’t made in the U.S. (what consumer electronics ever is anymore?) but I always get an American citizen on the phone, which is more than I can say about Dell.

He’s not advocating “buy local” he’s advocating for tariffs, full on government imposed tariffs, on things produced in non-white countries. If his message was simply, “buy American” no one would have batted an eyelash.

Le Jack is a troll. I know this because I know him on another board where he trolls around and, in fact, has made many sock puppets (of which he’s freely admitted were him), although they don’t call them sock puppets there, they call them “alt accounts”. He was eventually banned.
