Most Bizarre Political View You've Encountered?

What is the most bizarre or idiosyncratic political view you’ve seen either on the Internet or in real life? This doesn’t necessarilly mean the most extreme such as Nazis or Communists since both of them do have fairly cohesive communities.

Personally the most extreme is an advocate of absolute, divine right monarchy on a different forum who proclaimed his political hero to be Sir Robert Filmer (who was considered reactionary in the 17th Century!): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Filmer

May not be the most bizarre, but Basil Marceaux Dot Com is quite up there.

I never knew that some extreme left-leaning people are against all private charity until it was brought up on this board. It isn’t that they don’t think there are plenty of people that need help, it is that they see private charity as a cover for things that the government take care of fully.

Is he extremely nervous in front of the camera or brain damaged?

When I was in college I met another student who told me that the purpose of the Berlin Wall was to keep people from West Berlin from sneaking into East Berlin to live because they knew how wonderful life was under Communism. She was completely serious.

When the Wall came down, I wished I had her phone number.

little from column A, little from column B?

I think David Icke is going to win the thread once again.

One of the most bizarre political beliefs I ever encountered personally was back in 2000 during the vote count situation. A co-worker said he had it all figured out. He said it was a plot by the government. They were going to declare that there was no legally elected president and “take over”.

Me: “So you’re saying that the United States government is secretly plotting to take over the United States government?”
Him: “Well, it sounds stupid when you say it like that.”

This isn’t the most bizarre I’ve heard of, but it’s a rather odd viewpoint and I’ve only met one person who espoused it. I knew a guy who would only eat wild meat. His reasoning was that it was unethical to raise animals for food, but perfectly okay to shoot them in their natural habitat. I guess I kinda get it, but I don’t see it catching on.

I have seen libertarians so opposed to the public good they don’t agree with publically funded roads, they would prefer a system of private toll roads everywhere.
There are also libertarians who want it to be “legal” to dump radioactive waste in public areas, with the recourse being a beefed up civil court system where those hurt would seek remedy.
I’ve met a few individuals who when pressed will express a belief in white supremacy or neo-nazism, when they themselves or their SO aren’t “white”.
Maybe that is more like cognitive dissonance or something.

I think when it comes right down to it most people do not ever examine their beliefs and try to square it with their life. Most get lucky in that their beliefs aren’t too crazy.

Twenty years ago, I met a GOP county-level activist who said that he saw government passing away and being replaced by corporations. He seemed to be in favor of this, or to see it as inevitable. He’s still an activist, but I guess still at the county level.

Anything espoused by Fred Phlelelelps and his minions.

I thought we had this thread before.

And that I won.

There was the guy on here a while back who thought that all the 17th century European royals were secretly black. Does that count as a political belief? Because if so, that’s gotta be up there.

I knew a kid in high school who believed that the US should station people on the Mexican side of the border and shoot anyone who tries to go into the US.

I also have a cousin who thinks interracial marriage should be illegal, but I’m not sure if that counts as a political belief.

There’s always Lyndon LaRouche. Lyndon LaRouche - Wikipedia

That’s not being opposed to the public good. That’s being opposed to leaving the public good up to the government.

Well I’m not AGAINST private charity, but historically, it has never addressed problems like hunger as efficiently and successfully as government does. Being able to eat should be a basic right, not a charity thing. What’s so weird about that?

Ideological purity in all its manifestations.

My favorites were the folks who actively, passionately, campaigned for LaRouche while he was in prison. They were at my door at least twice per week throughout that campaign season. Late 80’s-ish it was. Absolutely nasueating!

Doesn’t mean private charities aren’t a good thing, and haven’t helped. (And sometimes, sadly, they were the only help, when the government just said fuck it all)
I think we had someone here who claimed to be a leftist, but was a member of teh John Birch Society. She was a long time member who was banned and then had a few socks.

The Freepers can be pretty fucking scary. They had a whole theory that Obama had his grandmother killed in order to generate sympathy votes. facepalm
