Back in like the early 80’s a lot of women hated him for leaving his wife for the Nanny. And there was the whole Coke addiction, but I understand he’s sober now. Other than that, I’ve got nothing.
Nope. This is utterly incorrect. He is admired and adored by his significant fanbase. He is a very popular artist and his fanbase has either forgiven him or ascribed his behavior to Rihanna’s provocation. Many people do think he is a POS but it’s a long way from ‘everybody’.
Well, there’s also the fact that for a while now his dramatic movies have been funnier than his comedies.
She has some rather extreme political beliefs, but I don’t see how she could be considered remotely as offensive as either Mel Gibson, Roman Polanski or Mike Tyson.
I’m surprised nobody mentioned Mike Tyson yet.
He’s certainly not what he used to be, but I’m surprised he has a career at all.
I don’t see this raising to the level widespread disgust people have for Chris Brown, Polanski, or Andy Dick. (or Woody Allen). The OP said “despised celebrity.” I may not approve of things celebrities do (Paris Hilton?) but do many people really *despise *Robin Williams or Susan Sarandon?
Oh, I agree. People are mostly just tired of him.
As for Susan Sarandon, this is the first time I’ve ever seen it suggested that someone doesn’t like her. I guess some people move in different circles than I do.
I despise Tom Cruise, but I don’t think he’s widely despised.
Jenny McCarthy is despised by people who believe in science - her career level is posing for Playboy again, I believe.
Ray Lewis and Michael Vick are up there from the NFL.
What’d she ever do to you?
Okay, Hannibal kind of sucked, but it wasn’t really her fault…
Yeah, if there were a thread for whackadoos who still have a career, Tom Cruise wins. ![]()
It’s my own thing I know and he’s a dynamite actor but I’m pretty uncomfortable with Morgan Freeman these days. And I punish myself by refusing to watch a Woody Allen film. Too much ick factor there for my taste, Gentlemen.
What the hell? You think Paul Reubens is despised?
If anyone thinks of him at all, I’d say they’re more embarrassed for his stupidity. I think it’s absurd to say he’s the most despised celebrity.
I’ll nominate Michael Vick.
We obviously, by definition of the OP, the people listed here are going to have a fanbase or else they wouldn’t still have a career. Outside of that fanbase though, Brown is pretty hated - and even a lot of his fans hate him as a person and just like his music.
Of these I will go with Donald Trump.
This is who I immediately thought of just reading the topic title.
Conservative ideologues despise Sarandon for her fairly vocal politics - think an updated version of the ire Jane Fonda inspired. Her and Tim Robbins were something of the prototypical liberal power couple in Hollywood for several years and it got under some folks skins.
Robin Williams was a little despised in certain rarefied circles because he had a reputation from his standup years for stealing other comedian’s bits. I doubt that crosses over very far into the general public though.
Morgan Freeman is widely despised?
Let’s see. He had a divorce. He was the driver in a car accident where he might have been negligent. He was in “The Bucket List”. He called the Tea Party racist.
Which of those do you despise him for?
I read an article about this a while ago. Basically, Robin Williams waited outside in the back alley while openers did their routines, because he was afraid someone would think he stole their act. He swore he never did it on purpose.
Sleeping with his step-granddaughter?
