Wow… so many to choose from. I don’t know what the most common spoofs are, but by far my favorites are thosein the halloween episodes. Too many to count. Almost every short story is a take off of something. My favorite has to be the one where Bart is on the bus and sees the gremlin outside. Spoof of the movie where the same thing happens on a plane (Twilight Zone?).
I think that was “Terror at 50,000 feet” or something to that effect. Shatner was in it.
Ever seen the one where Department of Labor workers fly in from the celing in an episode “The Last Temptation of Homer”? need a hint? Lisa mentions Baron Munchausen, and the Brazilian soccer team is mentioned in that same episode. Yup. your fav movie and mine, Brazil.
Planet of the Apes. There’s the Troy MacLure musical, Homer references it in his NASA recruitment press conference, and the music is often used.
Also,in one episode, the kids are playing in a field and then the parents come riding on horses catching all the kids so they could go to church. The music also plays. Its very similar to the corn field scene in POTA.
This twilight zone TV show episode was reprised in “Twilight Zone: The Movie”, with John Lithgow cast as the nervous airline passenger who swears he sees a gremlin riding on the wing of the plane. William Shatner appeared in the TV show episode version.
The Simpsons is always trashing the “Police Academy” series.
example 1:
After Bart shoplifted, Homer rants, “Why do you think I took you to all those Police Academy movies? For Fun? Well I didn’t here anyone laughing, DID YOU?”
example 2:
When Marge joins the Police force, Homer rants, “Man, when Marge went to Police Academy I thought it was gonna be fun and exciting, like that movie…‘Spaceballs’. But instead it’s been painful and disturbing like ‘Police Academy’.”
Another vote for Psycho. Although I can’t remember the context or episode too well (it’s really late), I remember where Homer and Bart go to pick up Maggie from what seems to be a baby prision. After Maggie has liberated the passafires(sp) all the babies are starting at Homer, Bart, and Maggie and all you hear is the sucking noise of the babies…a la the birds. I think once they’re out of the building you actually see Hitchcock walk by.
Also I love the one were Homer and Ned become really good friends and Homer morphs in from the Bushes like the T-1000 in Terminator2 and then Homer chases after the Flander’s and latches on with the golf clubs. I was rolling after that scene.
(Sorry about the errors, it’s late and I’ve been programming for hours…stupid SD causing me to procrastinate more!).

This is my first post so be kind. I would just like to say that Homer did join a cult. He was then found to be the choosen one by the birthmark on his bum. It is a little bit like Eyes Wide Shut.

/HIJACK/ Third Rock did a marvelous reference to this when William Shatner played the Big Giant Head and they were picking him up at the airport. Dick of course is played by John Lithgow
Dick: How was your trip
BGH: Horrible. I keep seeing a monster on the wing of the plane.
Dick (In John Lithgow’s squealing voice: THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO MEEEEEE!
The Simpsons has spoof dozens of Broadway musicals, from outright (seeing the road show of CATS) to very subtle (Skinner’s prisoner number 30621 is the same as Jean Valjean’s in Les Miz).
That’s 24601, and it’s used several times.
The Halloween episodes are the treasure trove of parodies. A few that have not been mentioned:
The Krusty doll that is set to “evil” parodies the segment of “Trilogy of Terror” where Karen Black is chased by a knife-wielding african idol.
“King Homer” resets the entire “King Kong” story with a big giant Homer as the giant ape.
I believe there is a more direct Lord of the Flies parody, it escapes me whether this was a Halloween episode or a regular episode, in which Bart, Lisa and the other kids are stranded on an island.
Also–another “Twilight Zone” parody is the Halloween episode where the entire family is captured by Kang and Kodos, with the “How to Serve Man” cookbook, etc.

This was a regular episode, and very funny. Lord of the Flies, as written by Matt Groening. Whether by coincidence or design, it was shown in NYC syndication the same day as the last episode of the original Survivor.

Okay, I’ll be kind. You see, in order for an episode to be spoofing something, it has to happen after the movie has been made. Eyes Wide Shut came out in 1999. The episode you are referring to aired wayyyyyy before then.

“Oh, and Mahaloth, you do mean the shunning right… 'cause theres a lot of lawyers out here making strange looks at you.”
Uh, no, dude, I mean the Shinning, which is what I said. The segment is not called the Shunning, it’s called the Shinning. You are wrong and I am right, at least according to the script and the official Simpsons book, and the fact that everyone in the ep. says Shinnning, not Shunning.

**In one Santa’s Little Helper is abandoned or runs away and Mr. Burns takes him to turn him into an attack dog. To make SLH violent he’s put in a chair and a straight jacket with those things to hold his eyelids open while Ludwig Van is played with different images playing on a movie screen. **
Another CO ref is when Lisa tried to figure out if Bart is dumber than a Hamster for her school project: After wiring some cupcakes with electricity (which Bart keeps trying to grab and hurt hiumself), Bart is later asked to get cupcakes from the fridge, his hands go out to grab them, just like Alex was about to grab the naked woman’s breats after his conditioning. Neither could do it.
Very subtle.

**It’s not a movie (maybe it will be soon) but they reference the TV show The Prisoner all the time. There was a fairly recent epidoe (where Homer makes a gossip website) that borrowed heavily. Other references have popped up as well from time to time. **
Heck, didn’t the episode with Homer joining the cult have Marge chased by the Ball?
