Most Often Spoofed Movies on the Simpsons

What movies seem to get spoofed by the Simpsons over and over again? I mwean there are a lot of little here and there bits but some movies just seem like eternal fodder.

One that is very common is Citizen Kane.

Well, Stanley Kubrick is probably the most made fun of director, since his movies are so weird. Here is a partial list of what they’ve done.

Dr. Srangelove: Homer riding bomb like Slim Pickens.

2001: Space Oddysey: Homer in space and when he sits in that comfy chair and they show his eye change color.

Clockwork Orange: In one Haloween ep., Bart is dressed like Alex, including having one set of long eyelashes.

The Shining: Duh, the Shinning.

Full Metal Jacket: I’m pretty sure the military school ep. with Lisa and Bart is poking fun at this. If not, there must be others.

Eyes Wide Shut: Not yet, but I’d love to see Homer have an experience like Tom Cruise did with that cult. I’d be on the floor laughing.

Any Spartacus? Any Barry Lyndon? Any Lolita? I’m not sure.

They’ve spoofed scenes from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest at least twice. Smothering a patient with a pillow happens, and a big, silent indian smashes a window with a water cooler and jumps out the window. Somebody else does the same thing in another episode, maybe Carl or Lenny.

It was barney who did the coocoo’s nest thing.

Citizen Kane is most often associates with Mr Burns.

I’ve seen a few hitchcock items (the birds, psycho)

The best episode was the one where they re-did Cape Fear. The entire episode was like the movie. Sideshow Bob was after Bart and he had the same tatoos as De Niro, etc. It was hilarious!

I think the most spoofed is the bomb riding scene from Dr. Strangelove:

As a couch Gag (the entire family drops)

At the army store, the hippie bomb (homer didn’t read the sign to not ride the bomb)

I think I just saw another instance of homer dreaming he was riding the bomb, but I can’t give an exact instance. D’oh!

My favorite recent one was the Matrix spoofe in Lisa the Treehugger…

“menu boy not weak like shrimp, menu boy strong like prawn.”

Oh, and Mahaloth, you do mean the shunning right… 'cause theres a lot of lawyers out here making strange looks at you.

PSYCHO, by my count. Well, it’s at least one of the big ones.

I remember “The Springfield Files” (with the violin), “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” with Homer being haunted by the ghostly Mr. Burns, as well as the scene where Mr. B actually bites the bullet…well, almost.

And of course, the Sideshow Bob episode, where Bob turns back the chair, thinking he’ll find Selma’s corpse, only to find his little nephew in law.

There was another Sideshow Bob episode (Cape Feare?) which featured Bob in a motel room with stuffed birds. Very PSYCHO-esque.

Oh, and there was a Halloween episode where Skinner was riding the bus (because Mother hid his keys- she was right to do so, of course). Spoof on PSYCHO.

And they often put it in the crazy credits on Halloween episodes.

There may even be more, but that’s all I can think of.

Oh, wait, more PSYCHO refs…

the one with Itchy and Scratchy getting taken off the air because of Marge…Maggie hitting Homer with the hammer, very Psycho esque.

In the Halloween episode with the evil Krusty doll- the doll about to knife Homer.

And basically every creepy haunted house. I’m telling you, and it’s not just because I’m obsessed, it’s gotta be PSYCHO. Oh yeah, shouldn’t this be in Cafe Society?

D’oh, and since I forgot to preview, this didn’t get added to the post.

In Bart the General we get various spoofes, including The Longest Day (helmet), Patton (Bart himself), and Full Metal Jacket (the training scene), Clockwork Orange (the horrible ghastly mistake of making Nelson bleed his own blood).
Also, the Indian from cookoos nest is done thrice:

In the first clip episode, Barney smothers homer, breaks a window and then runs off (Moe says “we really gotta get him a girl-friend”)

In the Pink shirt/Jackson episode, Homer says hello to the Chief, who lambasts the psych workers for not reaching out to him

Finally in the Volunteer episode where Bart “frees” the old folks, the Chief comes in to talk to them, and then goes out through the window, returning for his hat, and then going out again.

Still can’t remember the last time the bomb is done.

It’s not a movie (maybe it will be soon) but they reference the TV show The Prisoner all the time. There was a fairly recent epidoe (where Homer makes a gossip website) that borrowed heavily. Other references have popped up as well from time to time.

The best A Clockwork Orange spoof is the episode where Lisa conditions Bart for a science class without his knowledge. She conditions him to associate pain with cupcakes. We see Bart reaching for two cupcakes with cherries on top, the same POV as Alex reaching for the actress’s bare breasts whne he is being exhibted as a product of the Ludovico technique. (Betja you can tell it’s one of my favorite movies).

I’ve seen “Clockwork Orange” a million times, so maybe I’m just drawing a blank here, but what scene in the movie is that “You made me bleed my own blood” spoofing?

Helllloooo??

Deliverance!!

In one Santa’s Little Helper is abandoned or runs away and Mr. Burns takes him to turn him into an attack dog. To make SLH violent he’s put in a chair and a straight jacket with those things to hold his eyelids open while Ludwig Van is played with different images playing on a movie screen.

kelli, i know deliverence and the matrix and such are doen once but i was asking what movies seem to get done over and over… so far we have Citizen Kane, one Flew over the Cuckoo’s nest, Dr. Strangelove, Psycho, and A Clocvkwork Orange.

Did we get “Saturday Night Fever?”

I remember … [sub][sup]how embarassing, Scratchy is the cat right?[/sup][/sub] Scratchy struts à la John Travolta in the 70s X-rated Itchy and Scratchy. I believe Bart did to. There may be a some others I can’t recall.

Bart’s “strut” scene is more of a reference to Stayin’ Alive, the sequel to Saturday Night Fever (an good for a laugh in its own right).

You could make a good argument that any episode focusing on Bart is a de facto homage to Lord of the Flies. That aside, there was a pig’s head on a stick in the Kamp Krusty episode.

I seem to recall one episode where there’s a glass of water and something’s coming and the water is moving, like in Jurassic Park. I don’t remember which one it was, though.

And there’s the “See my vest” one.

They spoofed “Rear Window” when Bart broke his leg and thought he saw Flanders kill his wife. Also, in an episode when Principal Skinner was climbing stairs in a bell tower they spoofed that scene from “Vertigo.”
