Oh my god, I love Newsies. I thought about putting it in this thread, but I figured it wasn’t quite shameful enough. I actually watch it for the kid who played Spot…that cocky little smirk…swoon
And of course I know all the songs by heart. It could be worse: I could know all the dance moves. But I don’t.
I liked the Super Mario Bros movie too. I’m the biggest Mario fan I know, and even though it did nothing to help the franchise at all, (although it IS the first time I’ve heard Mario and Luigi referred to as; “Mario and Luigi Mario”, and remember at least *a few *references to ‘Mario’ being their last names in subsequent games… I’m a dork).
Perhaps the Mario brand didn’t help, but I’m a little surprised it hasn’t garnered any ‘cult status’ over the years.
My neighbor took his kid and a couple of neighbor kids to a Saturday matinee of the Super Mario Brothers movie shortly after it opened. He and the three kids were the only people in the theater. You, sir, head up a Cult of One.
Ooops, make that a Cult of Two. Just saw the post above.
Hey! Two more adult women who like shonen anime! I, too, own season one of One Piece on DVD, and recently bought season two. I also like Naruto, and am waiting for my next paycheck so I can buy the first DVD of Naruto Shippuden. My current favorite is Bleach, though. So many cute guys - even some of the villains are kinda hot (yes, I think Aizen looks better without the glasses).
Even more shameful guilty pleasure: Asereje (aka “The Ketchup Song”)
I’m a reality TV whore. I don’t care what the show is, I’ll watch it. Rock of Love? Check. Real Housewives of any county? Check. The Hills? Oh, CHECK my friends.
It’s a sickness.
But the best reality show of all? Judge Judy. I am OBSESSED with Judge Judy, to the point where I season pass it on the DVR.
The saddest part of that? I’m an attorney. My Judge Judy obsession has reached the point where I actually put a Judge Judy quote into a closing statement and was sorely dissapointed that no one on the jury picked up on it.
I love Judge Judy so much that I actually sing the little theme song when I hear it on the TV. Shameful, I know.
I had a case recently where the plaintiff had been interviewed by the Judge Judy production staff for a possible appearance on the show… but they finally said no.
I’ll see your ROL, DOL, TA, and TPA and raise you two I Love Moneys and three Charm Schools. (I also saw the first two Flavor of Loves.)
I did draw the line at Megan Wants a Millionaire (before it was pulled), Real Chance of Love, anything involving “New York,” and My Antonio. Megan SUCKS, and the less air time that repulsive creature gets, the better. The others actually didn’t interest me.
I don’t think there’s any better background TV while reading the Sunday paper than a big, dopey, Technicolor Hollywood musical. I watch ironically, of course, if anyone asks. There was a real gem on the other day, Fred Astaire and a lady I never heard of, and it was the dopiest most garishly colored and costumed one yet - “Yolanda and The Thief”. About three quarters of the way through, there was a dance number called ‘Coffee Time’, and my jaw just dropped - it was AWESOME. I’ve watched it over and over on youtube and the next time TCM runs it, in November, I’m taping it on the old VCR. Excellent! I’d love to see someone do it on DWTS, but it ain’t for amateurs.
Amongst me and my friends, a lot of the stuff mentioned here aren’t even considered guilty pleasures. I mean Newsies, Cats, Super Mario Bros.? Those things are fun.
My guilty pleasures are stuff like kiddy shows and cartoons. I mean, I actually have an opinion on which Blue’s Clues host was the best. I actually sing some of the theme songs, just for fun. I also loved Nickelodeon before it went all tween drama, and will still watch any of the shows when I get the chance. And I still like Disney Channel. Heck, I even like freakin’ *Hannah Montana *(though MIley’s singing sucks).
But the thing I’ve found most embarrassing is not what particular shows I watch, but how dadgomn much I know about them. My geekiest friend, who is constantly told she’s a geek, told me, after one conversation about Star Trek, that I was geekier than she ever was.
