When my car got a dent (teenagers/baseball, etc), we got it out with a plunger. There was a tiny little dimple left - but that’s a lot better than a great big dent.
Congrats on the new car - sorry it’s apparently cursed.
:dubious:
Right. Because a KIA is such a huge waste of money, and no one is ever allowed to save up for something they want.
I don’t care if it’s a brand new $60k Escalade (yes, there’s one sitting outside right now, that I rolled my eyes at), kicking in someone elses property isn’t cool.
You win the thread – for the most asinine comment posted.
Yeah yeah, well all fucking know what a basically worthless investment buying a new car is – it depreciates faster than shrimp left out in the sun.
But you know what? There are those of us that really, really love cars and beyond the practically of said investment there’s the pure joy of finally owning something you may have put almost endless time and effort to acquire.
Drive a beater or a Porsche, I won’t judge either way. But if I work for it, it’s what I want and I can still fill my many other financial obligations, kudos for living some of your dreams. Most people never do.

Kinthalis, I feel for you – and your Kia. Trust it only gets better from here.
Somebody peed in your knaidel again? Man, you really should stop telling kike jokes at the Jewish deli.
Kinthalis, before you even call up the insurance company, go to a reputable body shop and get an estimate on how much it’ll cost them to try to fix it by just popping out the dent with a mallet and nose puller. They might be able to buff out most of the paint damage and leave just a slight marring, and that shouldn’t cost more than fifty or sixty bucks. It won’t be perfect, but it probably won’t be noticeable to the casual look.
Dangerous Assumptions time: Your location says Jersey City & you said “Mall”. The only mall I know of with a Barnes & Noble in Jersey City is the Newport Center Mall, which charges you to park there.
Now, if a parking lot charges you to park on its site and the damage/vandalism occurs while your car is parked there and out of your care (and in theirs), why would this go through your car insurance policy instead of the parking lot management company’s liability insurance?
PS- You did get a police report on this, right?
PPS- I’m not an attorney, but I beat one at ‘quarters’ once…
Most if not all self-park lots have an explicit disclaimer prominently displayed (and also usually on the back side of the ticket) disclaiming liability due to incidental damage or vandalism. You can take a shot at this, but I’ll bet that they’ll tell you to go pound sand.
Kinthalis, much sympathy and good thoughts to you.
But, you know, if you drive a rolling disaster like I do, nobody even in their wrong mind will bother it. tasteless gallows humor
Ghanima, shove a rake sideways up your mother’s ass.
No, it wasn’t the newport mall, this was near my work on 46 west near the willowbrook mall, but not at the willowbrook mall. So no paid parking. And no security cameras that I noticed.
I know it happenned there, because of where the damage is, I would have noticed it coming to my car to leave for lunch. I didn’t clal the police however. For two reasons:
I knew it would take a logn time for them to get there in a non emergency situtation and I had three jobs on a deadline due by 5 today. I barely had the time to rush to B&N get the books I wanted and rush back.
And I didn’t really know if calling the police for such a thing would be appropriate and if all I would be doing is pissing them off for wasting their time since no witnesses, no cameras, nothing they can really do.
I am now thinking how that might affect my case with my insurance. But I’m going to go to a body shop first tomorrow and see what they say. If they can bang it out for $100 or so I’ll be happy.
I once heard about some car security systems that would incenerate thieves/vandals… anyone know where I could get my hands on one?
Sorry, wrong B&N. I know the one you mean though (by Kohls) and there are always people circling the lot looking for parking spaces…and if the jerk didn’t think your car was an ex-spouses, an ex-bosses, or the car of a person who they think just ‘stole their parking space’ :dubious: , they might have just been bat-shit insane. Long story short, there is no ‘why’ in any meaningful sense. People can be asses, news at 11.
Its a tough break, but you are doing the right thing by taking it to a body shop & getting the work done directly. Its something you definately want to address before rust sets in. Good luck with the repairs & with the deadlines.
What, are you jealous or something? What exactly is dumb about buying a new car? I bought a new car last year because I needed a reliable vehicle and I don’t light cigars with dollar bills. I suppose if the OP bought a house and someone broke into it you’d think it was stupid not to just rent a place.
To the OP: Sorry this happened to you. Someone vandalized my old car a few years ago. It was a jeep with a vinyl top and to get into it the bastard cut through one of the windows. (For nothing…there wasn’t anything worth stealing in it so they dumped the contents of my glove box all over the floor…assholes), It cost me 200 bucks to get a new window, too.
It was a used car, too, so maybe Ghanima will be pleased to know that I didn’t buy it because I had some massive overflow of cash to waste.
