Most rednecks I have known happily and proudly identify as such. Redneck is a common descriptor which has about as much racial impact as calling someone a Yankee if they are from Maine.
And you should be ashamed for using “nigger” in that way, it makes you seem small and petty, as well as incredibly stupid.
As opposed to the atypical nigger attitude: go to an Ivy League university, get elected to the senate, elected to the presidency. But still, y’know,… a nigger.
I must be slow. It took me nearly all day to see what you really did there - used a racial epitaph against a black man in a public forum and getting away with it by wrapping it in the guise of a tu quoque argument.
Hypocrites. Redneck is indeed a racist comment and was meant as such. Black people refer to each other as nigger all the time. And they do it just as proudly as some white people refer to themselves as “rednecks” and even “cracker” and “peckerwood”. You meant the term in a derogatory sense just as white people mean “nigger” in a derogatory sense when they refer to black people. IT’S NO DIFFERENT. But if a white person says it then it’s racist. And don’t give me that “niggah” is different bullshit either. It’s the same word. Just spoken with a different dialect.
So call me what you wish. I will still speak the truth and call people out on it. But I DID expect these responses from this board because in peoples efforts to prove they aren’t racist anything goes; as long as it’s spoken against someone that may be white. Of course as it goes black people can’t be racist. Yeah sure okay. Take your lilly white ass to the hood in Oakland or some place like that and see how you feel when they fuck you up just for being white. It’s no different than a black person going to some podunk town in Mississippi and being assaulted just for being black.
My racial comment was meant to make a point. The point being that it’s okay for you to do it because your black. Yeah, okay. Sorry that shit doesn’t fly with me and fuck anyone that doesn’t like it. So defend him all you want but Mr. Atomic is wrong and he fucking goddamn well knows he meant it as a racial epitaph. Tell me Mr. Atomic, how many white people have you spoken to and called them redneck to their face? Maybe someone that your friends with possibly, but I mean strangers that you don’t know? And if you ever have used that term to a white person you didn’t know you damn well meant it in a derogatory way. If the answer is you never say that to them then I wonder why??? Sorry, pal, but I’m not one of those white people that is scared of blacks. I have lived in the hood. Hell I’ve lived in the barrio too. Not much puts fear in me. Not a badass, just not scared. Also not scared to call you out on your bullshit.
By the way, since so many of you believe there are no such thing as races ( a good point by the way ) then how can there exist racism?
Redneck isn’t a skin color, it’s a lifestyle. Just as gangsta isn’t a skin color, it’s a lifestyle. Now, if I say someone’s a redneck, or a gangsta, you might form a mental image of his/her skin color…but I’ve known black rednecks and white gangstas. Also brown rednecks and gangstas.
I’m glad someone pointed this out, I’ve been reading this thread thinking what a bunch of racist ignoramuses. You are all as bad as those you point the finger at. I don’t have much more to say because it has been said for me.
I’m white. I can put myself into the redneck category pretty easily. I can also take myself out of the redneck category. As it is, nobody who knows me would dream of calling me a redneck. If a stranger were to call me a redneck, it wouldn’t bother me, as I don’t fit into that niche.
However, until we have believable skin dye jobs, I will never be mistaken for any race but white. My skin tone is a very pale peachish ivory, and my facial features basically conform to what this society regards as a “white” face. And that’s the difference between being a redneck and being white.
“Redneck” was coined by white people, to describe other white people. When used in a derogatory manner, it’s almost always used by white people, to insult other white people. The vast majority of white people, if called a redneck, would not feel particularly insulted. If the Earth were populated solely by white people, “redneck” would remain a viable insult in all of the contexts in which it is currently considered insulting.
In short, the argument that redneck is a racist term is only valid in the minds of very, very stupid people.
