Since this Sunday is, in fact, Mother’s Day, I felt it only appropriate to watch the 2023 movie, “Mother’s Day”. I recommend it because it is an entirely Polish movie; produced, directed, set in Poland, and played by Polish actors. It is the first Polish movie, that I know of at least, that I’ve ever seen.
I got an overriding sense of poverty and hopelessness that seemed to pervade the entire movie. The setting was pretty dismal.
There was also a grindhouse flick called “Mother’s Day”. Gruesome and disgusting and featured a head in a microwave. Or so I heard. I never saw it. Thankfully, it was one of the few splatter movies my friends didn’t drag me to see.
Oh man sounds sad.
Dismal was the message from my MIL nursing home today. Her nurse called to inform her sons that MIL was actually up dressed and seated in her wheelchair in the dining room waiting on Her sons and wives to join her for dinner. Oh my heart breaks. . No such plans were made as she is I the throes of delusion and dementia. it’s been months since mom has gotten out of bed for anyone. Fuck! I feel terrible. I think I feel worse than her sons. I should go watch this movie to make me feel better?
Well, if you want to see a determined mother defeat an entire gang of violent thugs in order to save her son and heal their emotional wounds, I’d say yes. Despite the violence, the overriding message is that a mother’s love prevails. The ending was actually very touching.
To avoid confusion with what must be several mother’s day movies, the actual name of the movie is Dzien Matki - 2024
