Motorcycle Gloves

I hate gloves, even in cold weather, but on a bike they are a must wear item for me so I like to wear the thinnest gloves possible that will still give me decent protection. Many years ago I had a set of summer weight (very thin) leather gloves with fully studded palms that sacrificed themselves for my hands once. I’m trying to find a similar set and am having no luck. Does anybody have a local source for these?

There are studded gloves on the net and in some shops, but the only ones I can find are made by Teknic and Olympia. I do not like those. They are bulky, and border on winter weight. There are also a lot of cheap, studded fingerless gloves, but fingerless gloves never made sense to me, and I’m not looking for cheap novelty things. I have a “Bedazzler” that I could use for looks.

Some of you long time riders must know what I’m talking about and I’m hoping at least one of you knows a “Clem’s bikes” that has something like that. Finder’s Fee can be arranged to sweeten the pot:)

There are industrial gloves made of Kevlar. They’re specifically made to protect against lacerations. The ones I’ve seen are from North Safety. As a plus, or minus, depending on your fashion sense, they’re bright yellow with blue grippy dots. They’re not cheap, but they work.

I almost got a nice pair of Fieldsheer gloves, but I couldn’t bring myself to spend $120 on them just then. Maybe later.

I will take a look if I remember when I go to pick up my bike in a few days. Have you tried looking at a local tattoo shop? There are a couple around me that do both tattoos and sell bike stuff, I know I’ve seen similar gloves there.

Y’know I still have a great pair of riding gloves made from deerskin. Thin enough for summer and plenty tough. They survived me going sideways off my bike years ago with only minor shredding and are still wearable. I had’em made for me at a leather shop and I’ve never regretted it. That’d be my recommendation.

I pretty much only use Deerskin, but I have never seen them with studded palms. They are very soft and thin with great strength for thier weight.

Those Olympia studded Kevlar gloves are my summer gloves; I don’t find them bulky or heavy (I can get credit cards out of my wallet while I’m wearing them). My favorites were the old Tourmaster Road Race Comp II gloves, but they don’t make them any more.

Thanks for the input folks. Right now I use thin deerskin ones. The studded ones that I can find locally are cheap costume jobs. Between the two that the shop carries I’ll probably just go with the Olympias and learn to like them while I continue the quest. They are at least more comfortable feeling than the Teknics.

If I only had the cash, I’d go with the studded batman gloves here http://hollywoodprop.com/batmangloves.htm
