Motorcycle helmets: Odd sightings

A few weeks ago I was passed by a guy on a motorcycle whose helmet had two fuzzy white-and-pink ears on it. A little weird, but I liked the whimsy. Yesterday I saw a guy on a motorcycle whose helmet was completely covered by brown fur and had large ears sticking up. Both riders were on sportbikes, or newer sporty standards.

Ooh! Can I coin the term “Motosexual?”

While I’m here I might as well make the observation that this must be some sort of weird Japanese-inspired thing. That’s the only nation that I can see even coming close to being able to pull off anthropomorphic bike helmets.

I found this:

This site has furry full-helmet covers.

Well, the first site for which Johnny L. A. provides a link does have a Japanese language page …

Good god, that’s embarrassing.

I must admit though, I’ve always been tempted to race with one of those mohawks attached to my helmet, but they’d never past tech!

I saw a guy on a sportbike recently that had long metal spikes attached to his full face helmet. Hopefully they were only plastic and painted with metallic paint, otherwise they’d have to do some damage if he landed on his head! Looked pretty stupid, too.

I’ve seen the tiger tail on one guy who had the same general higway commute as me. Better than that is the guy with the bright orange helmet with a jack-o-lantern face painted on the back.

Aerostitch is an all American company and is located in Duluth, MN. They are one of the best, if not best, companies to order from. I would have posted a link to them had Johnny not already done so.

I’m 38 now, but back when I was a little kid, my grandmother would take me to school on the back of her motorcycle. She had a helmet that was covered in long green fur.

Grandmother, motorcycle, green fur…No, I don’t have issues, why?

Therapy is GOOD!

Auntbeast: Your grandmother sounds very  . It’s the eccentricities that make certain people worth knowing!

I’m pretty sure bunny ears on the first guy I saw were from Aerostich. The photo looks just like them. My g/f thinks they’re girly. I got a bit of a Donnie Darko vibe from them.

Now the tiger ears and tail… I wonder if Aerostich can make tiger-striped leathers?

I used to see a couple of guys who had glued wigs to the outside of their helmets. They said they missed the wind rushing through their hair!

They cut a patch so the cops could see the DOT sticker, though, just in case.

GIGGLE

Yanno, I’ve often wondered if it’d be possible to mod a motorcycle helmet to look like a Predator head. Funky dreads, mottled beige and yellow pattern for skin.

The thread was revived by a spammer, who has been banned; I’m going to lock the thread as a zombie (albeit one with a helmet, no doubt).
