This thread crawling from the grave made me think (something rare for me) ------ I have probably seen more funky motorcycle helmets this year than in the rest of my life total. PA is a helmet optional state so its no major surprise but besides the usual assortment of WW I and WW II German helmets I see a LOT of “Mohawks”, Viking and various fuzzy ones.
One I saw qualified as unique if not totally smart – the helmet had a slot in it and the mohawk sticking up was the wearers. I spotted him as he was parking at a bar and I almost dumped my bike doing a double-take.
I ride in CA, which is a mandatory helmet state. I’ve seen a lot of guys wearing coal-scuttles for a while, but now some have been popping up in chrome. At least three of the guys I ride with regularly bought chromed “skid-lids” as second helmets. I guess chrome is the new black, or something.
Mohawks seem to have disappeared around my town (Sacramento). Though I did see some of those mohawk attachments worn on hard hats at construction sites. That was a more amusing application.
