Motorola V551 ear speaker in-op

I have a Motorola V551 mobile phone, and I’ve recently discovered a problem: I can’t hear anything. It started out with difficulty hearing the caller. I got a call yesterday, and couldn’t hear anything at all. Today I called my landline, and could not hear the ringing in the V551’s ear speaker. ISTR being able to use the speakerphone feature a while ago when the ear speaker was so low. I haven’t had the opportunity to use the Bluetooth feature in the car. Since the speakerphone worked, and since the car has it’s own sound system, I’m assuming that the problem lies within the ear speaker of the phone itself. Either that, or there is a software problem.

Has anyone had this problem, and have a solution? Did I accidentally change a setting that shuts off the ear speaker? Is the phone hosed, and I need to replace it?

Bumpski.

There should be a rocker switch on the side of the phone, for volume if thats set to what you would normally have it at, then check to see if the phone has been muted via the settings.

Failing that , its probably time for a new phone. There should be enough v551’s around that you could probably pick up a low usage unit , if your partial to that moto.

Yes, I’ve turned the volume all the way up. I don’t know where there is anyplace where I could change the setting such that I would not be able to hear anything. I’m not in love with the model, but I hate shopping.

Yeah , if you have turned the volume up to max through the rocker switch, it would have over ridden the mute. At a guess , where the speaker hooks up through the hinge would probably be culprit, but you would have to try the bluetooth option to confirm that.

Too bad , I thought it was my first real phone when I got mine years ago. The only thing that ended up being lacking was the lack of a mmc card, most carriers should have an updated version of that phone, I think the V60 ?.

Well, I called the AT&T store. It’s the next block past the bus tunnel, so it’s not too far out of my way. I’ll check it out and see what they have. I almost never use my mobile, but I’ve been glad it has a camera on a couple of occasions. The AT&T guy sugested a Samsung flip-phone. That might be cool. Spelled backwards Samsung is the Winter ceremony of the wildebeests.

After going to the store, I’ve decided to just get another V551 from eBay. I assume I can just put my SIM card in it, and all will be good, right?

yes, just specify that you want an AT&T branded one, I don’t think your sim will work in a Cingular or t-mobile branded phone.

OK, got the phone off of eBay. Turns out it’s a Cingular phone, but it’s unlocked. When I turn it on it says AT&T and comes up with my correct number.

Obviously, I put in my own SIM card. (The phone didn’t come with one.) When I go to my Address Book it not only displays my phone numbers, but the previous owner’s phone numbers as well. Why is that? Shouldn’t they have gone away when I put in my SIM card?

Its an option to save numbers to the phone memory as well as the sim card, I think that phone defaulted to the phone mem, as well the sim card only has room for a limited amount of numbers.

Yeah… I seem to be missing some numbers. Oh, well. It’s not as if I use the phone anyway.
