OK, this is a little late, but we have had some out of town guests over for Thanksgiving so I’ve been away from the computer.
My wife and I awoke on Thanksgiving morning with lots to do and started busying outselves with preparation. We discovered that we had some errands to run so we got ready and headed outside.
What should we find but some stupid, incosiderate fucknugget parked across our drive. Not just the nose encroaching or something like that, the whole fucking car! We had no idea whose car it was as we had never seen it before so we just had to knock on doors. On our street the neighbours across from us regularly park one of their cars there, so we tried them first. We go no answer from either of them at first, but eventually we got their “guest” (my wife thinks he was a one night stand) to move the car. And then he blocked the street, just sitting there, right where we needed to back out. My wife even had to go ask him what he was doing–we were afraid he was going to park across the driveway again. He finally parked in his friend’s driveway, where there was plenty of room.
What kind of fucking numbskull parks across someone’s drive? Even if you are from out of town–heck out of the country–I would have expected that it was common sense not to park across someone’s driveway.
At the time I was really pissed off, now all I have to say is  and :wally
Take pictures? Include the license plate of the car, and if possible get a veiw of your drive in the process of being blocked. Make sure the pictures prove the car is parked, too. Then, if the same car keeps doing it, call the police, and present them with the photos while filing a complaint?
Don’t know if that would to much, if anything, but maybe? They wouldn’t be able to ticket them for past offenses, but they might take a more “hard assed” approach towards helping you stop the behavior.
Sorry for the confusion, by “regularly park their cars there” I meant in front of our house, not across the driveway. This was the first time someone was stupid enough to actually park across the driveway. I just couldn’t believe he did that, especially since there was plenty of room in the driveway of the house he was visiting.
That’s not as easy as it sounds. I had this happen to me in my apartment building. My car wasn’t in the parking lot, but it royally pissed me off just the same.
I called the cops. Turns out the cops don’t handle that sort of thing in Los Angeles. I had to call the parking authority. THEY said I had to be the manager to call them out to tow a car off the property.
It took me damn near 10 minutes to get the point across that a) the car was parked on the street, not on apartment property, and b) the car was completely blocking the driveway to the parking lot.
I considered busting the one of the windows for spite. Then I considered busting one of the windows to put it in neutral and pushing it. Then I considered that the guy who parked it and the guy who owned it may be different indivuals who may or may not know and like each other. So I did not bust a window.
In the end, parking authority came out and towed it away.
No, the driveway is dead easy to spot. The neighborhood is one with regularly spaced, pretty close together houses. The driveways are short, they all have curb cuts and we even had one of our cars parked near the end of ours–probably 15 feet from where he parked directly across our drive. That’s part of what is so damn puzzling about this. Unless he was drunk, I just can’t imagine how he missed that he was parking in front of a driveway.
When we lived in Mexico City, a co-worker, who happened to be a stunningly beautiful young lady (a Black woman from the U.S. living in Mexico was quite unusual) that lived alone in a house a couple of streets from us.
One morning she called us, very frightened because her next door neighbor, with plenty of driveway, parked his car across her drive, effectively holding her captive until he deigned to move it. It was a not-so-sublte attempt to control her or insult her…whether for spite of her race or her sex. She got up the nerve to demand that he move it so she could go to work.
That evening, my tall, American husband went to pay her neighbor a visit. And the neighbor saw the error of his ways.
Some folks just need things explained to them properly.
I’d have to agree with the above posters; call the cops. That way, even if the guy wasn’t ticketed, it’d be recorded in-house by your local police so that if this sort of behavior keeps up they’re more likely to take a hard line about it.
I sort of had the same thing happen on Thanksgiving. I was trying to leave Mr. Congo’s parents house. One of the guests of the neighbors across the street had parked right at the end of the driveway but across the street. Two other guests had each picked a different side of the driveway and had parked their cars, kind of overlapping the drive. Not one of them actually blocked the driveway but all three combined made it damn near impossible for me to move my car out of the driveway. I normally would have calmly asked them to move but on this particular day, Mr. Congo was in extreme pain (sciatica) and just wanted to go home. So, I maneuvered as well as I could and got out out pretty quickly. Lucky for all involved, I’m a great driver and I can move in tight spots (stop that sniggering you perverts :D) thanks to learning to drive in the city.
The neighbors across the street are very nice and friendly with the future in-laws but their guests are crappy parkers and frequently block the street.
The amount of people who have no clue how to park in this town never ceases to amaze me.
