Movie: Crazy, Stupid, Love

Who saw it?
I searched for a thread in Cafe Society about it; but came up blank.
My wife and I saw it last night. It was mostly a good movie.
There was one scene that I didn’t care for though. I’ll not post it yet though to see if it comes up on its own.

What did you think of it?

Steve Carell was born to play this type of role in movies. The nice loveable guy.

I know which scene you are referring to, with the babysitter pictures . Overall, there were some funny parts but had really awkward pacing. Like, steve carrell moping for 45 minutes between two funny scenes.

Yes, Brandus; you’re mostly correct about the scene I was talking about, but it was specifically the part where she evidently gave the kid one of those pictures. WTF? I get it; a love sick teenager things that’s the thing to do to entice the older man. It’s a small difference, but I was hoping that they would show the photograph she gave the kid, and it would be of her in a bathing suit or SOMETHING! I just didn’t like the idea that she gave the kid a picture of her nude.

I was surprised at how good it was. Was expecting a really crappy chic flick with repetitive and unimaginative comedy and got a decent plot with a decent showing out of Carell in a kinda serious role.

Definitely a good date movie.

I liked it quite a bit. It reminded me of another favorite, Love Actually. Both Steve Carrell and Emma Stone did a wonderful job.

I enjoyed it enough but found the Steve Carrell leg of the story triangle the least interesting of them so of course it was the dominant one.

Saw it a few weeks ago with my wife. It was entertaining. Not great, but a solid rom-com that didn’t make me feel like my wife should have gone with her girlfriends instead.

I agree about the (spoilered) scene at the end. I know she already knows the kid spanks it, and she already knows he worships her. I don’t profess to know what goes on in the mind of a teenage girl, but would a normal teen girl really give a boy a picture of herself, apparently nude, knowing that he’s going to masturbate to it? I know some kids “sext” each other and send around nude pictures, but it’s not like she’s trying to get this kid to like her; she’s just feeding his masturbatory fantasies. Seems oogy.

We saw the film yesterday (got a free ticket) and liked it more than we thought we would.
You can certainly wait for DVD or for it to come on cable channels, but worth catching when you have the chance - some funny scenes.

I liked it too and agree on all the cringeworthy moments. I thought Emma Stone was good…and Steve Carrell was great. I’m loving him in these types of roles…he was great in Dan In Real Life too. If you haven’t seen it, you should check it out.

Really loved this movie – my heart really went out for the Steve Carrell character. I thought the babysitter’s crush started really subtly, and the actress perfectly captured teenage awkwardness.

I’ll take the opposing view and say I didn’t care for it at all. I was just really, really bored by it. A lot of predictable cliches and one dimensional characters.
And it seemed like it didn’t know if it wanted to be taken seriously or comically. Trying to do both contradicted eachother.
Scenes with Carell trying to pick up women felt like failed takes of his 40 year-old virgin character and the backyard fight scene felt like it wanted to be a Farley Brothers film.
It just became a mish-mash that didn’t know what it wanted to be and is easily forgetable soon after leaving the theater.
